To Dragunov or not to Dragunov...

Every once in a while I get to wondering if I should purchase a Dragunov style stock for my SKS. I purchased the SKS some time ago and it has it's original stock...no import marks, it was apparently a war trophy brought home from Vietnam. Here is a link to the stock I'm considering:

Anyone know about the manufacturer or purchased Fiberforce stocks in the past, quality good? If Fiberforce isn't good quality can you recommend a better one? Does the Dragunov style stock improve control or reduce recoil?

And most importantly, should I do it? If I do it I'm planning on keeping the original stock.

I have mixed feelings. Being a bringback, the history is worth keeping together (stocks get separated for all kinds of reasons...owner dies, etc). On the other hand, preserving the original stock if you're going to be shooting it isn't a bad idea.

Myself, I couldn't put a synthetic stock on that individual rifle. On a typical refurb/recent import, no problem.

Let me know if you ever decide to part with that rifle.

Negative! There is history behind that gun. If it came out of some ho-hum armory I'd say do what you wish.

Since it has some history on it I would agree with everyone else and keep it how it is.

I was thinking about getting a SKS just to change the stock to the dragonuv but I would like a wood stock. Are there any manufactures making wood stocks for SKS? I went to Cordova shooting range a couple months ago and noticed someone shooting a dragonuv style rifle but wasnt a dragonuv(it was short like an ak or sks), and it had a dragonuv style wooden stock. I didnt ask the shooter what gun it was.

No bring back papers...it is Chinese, Type 56...sling should be original but I'm not sure the bayonet is original, it's the Chinese style though.

That's some nice old history there. I would leave it as is, get another one down the road. If you intend on shooting it and you don't want to risk banging up the original stock, go for it. It also allows you to check on the original stocks overall condition.

...I wouldn't mess with that one. if you're gonna go "Tacticool", find another SKS, maybe a cheaper Yugo and go crazy with it. I've seen a couple SKS's with the ATI Fiberforce stock and they look really cheap, cheezy and toy-like. They also make breaking down the rifle for cleaning a real pain in the you know what. If you heart is set on a Dragunov style stock for your SKS, go with the Choate Dragunov stock. Much better quality, built better and less headache in breaking down your rifle for cleaning. They are a bit more expensive, but are worth every extra dime they cost...

Original, no tacticool or 922r crap to deal with. Oh, and I had an ATI dragunov stock on my SKS for a while and it sucked. Don't do it.

I recommend The Choate Dragunov stock too. Its much better quality then the ATI.

I like wood too much with the older rifles. Keep the wood
