Hello,
I picked up two new complete uppers in 5.56. They are not high end, and that is acceptable - just plinkers, nothing more. I'll leave the company name out for now.
They are 16" Parkerized 4150 Chrome Moly Vanadium barrels with billet uppers.
One barrel was clean as well as the bolt carrier group. The other barrel and BCG were not clean and had been fired. While looking in the barrel, I see a lump/booger where the exhaust gas port is located. It was very noticeable. So, I cleaned the barrel, ALOT. The size was reduced, but every time I run a pad down the bore, it comes out with more carbon. Again, this is supposed to be a new barrel. The corresponding BCG had a lot of brown stuff (rust) coming off on my q tips. Could they or a previous owner plowed corrosive ammo at a high rate down the barrel damaging the gas port? Or is this normal? I have not seen this with my other quality ARs.
I have contacted the maker and have not heard back yet. Thanks.
