I doubt ceracote would do well as it would go over polyvinyl film, they use a clear coat specifically for that use. It seems that it does better for wear than wraps.

If you're planning on hydro dipping guns but aren't sure if they'll end up being durable or not, then this article will surely help you figure it out.

Do they Cerakote over it or how does it stand up over time?

      Thanks
You want fast and quality and reasonable prices? I can vouch for spartan hydrographics in reno, nv. For a couple extra bucks, they'll do same day service if you do an early am drop off. Take a day and hit cabelas and sheels while you wait

They recently did my moms ruger American in tropical multicam.

Hydro-dip.com is very good quality, but they nickle and dime you rather than give you an up front cost.

He asked for decent and fast.
He didn't mention price at all.

How would it hold up on a pistol? They get more wear than rifles, holsters, etc.

Thinking about buying a Kryptek pistol, and I assume that's hydrodipped.

I dont recommend a wrap. I have my NULA wrapped in Kryptek Highlander hydrodip and it flakes and chips off easily.

Hydrographics are durable enough, but they'll wear and scratch like any hard used item. Even cerakote will scuff.

Now, if youre asking whether or not it will wear from frequent use..... then that's hard to answer. Depends on the "use". I imagine a frequently used pistol would show wear around the grip area (from whacking things, sliding over things, and frequent rubbing). That being said, hydrographics are pretty inexpensive. I really wouldn't worry about it, especially if this is only holstered for range use or iwb carry.

Another thing about hydrographics. You REALLY need a good applicator. The DIY kits can be awful and some applicators don't have a good reputation.

Buy once, buy from a place you've seen the work from. Spartan hydrographics in reno is a safe bet on all counts and they aren't expensive. Plus, being in Reno they don't have the backlog and prices of cali dippers.
