Considering how barrels are disposable items anyway, and the barrel on an AR is about the easiest thing to swap out in the world, who cares.

You rarely have the chance for a follow up.
I am a hunter and been hunting for 30 years. I have used both AR platform and traditional bolt for coyotes. I personally find the ergos of a traditional bolt more comfortable and accurate for me. Also like stated usually one shot then if second occurs the dog is moving and time cycling a bolt is not much a factor. Most my kills have been under 75 yards with either shotgun , or a .243, but a .223 would have been more than enough gun at those ranges.

        maybe take a different approach-

Do you already have magazines for the platform?

M14 mags that work with Armalite with some mods?
        or DPMS pattern 308 mags?

as 6.5 creedmoor is more popular now than 243... I can understand that it's more difficult to find a low volume barrel in .243 now
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Answer: Coyotes may be taken at any time of the year, in any number (unless prohibited by local ordinance or otherwise) and in any manner except poison (California Code of Regulations, Title 14, sections 472 and 475).

It was obviously a failed attempt at a joke.

Seems like a 6.5 Grendel would make for a way lighter gun.

Oh it would be. I'm just wanting a .243.

I do have a couple of stripped AR-15 lowers that I haven't made my mind up what to do with yet but I've been wanting an AR platform in .243 for some time. Why not do it now when parts are hard to come across?

I also considered this until the primer shortage. I think I'd rather go with a cartridge that uses srp instead

Do you have an AR10 already? I built a “semi lightweight” 16” in .308 and it was so heavy it never made it into the woods. It’s not a comfortable gun to carry in any way.

For 2k you could get a pretty sweet bolt gun.

I thought you needed to use an AR-10 platform for .243? It's a necked down .308 cartridge right?
