What are some good quick acquisition rear sights?

So for a picatinny rail, I was thinking along the lines of a buckhorn "like" rear sight on the old lever action guns but designed to be used on AR15s. Doesn't have to be buckhorn but I want a pretty open rear sight for quick acquisition at 25 yards or less and with a smaller base for use at 100 yards +.

BTW, I've used Troy battle sights and I like them but you kind of have to toggle between 2 different sights to get what I want. 1 is open, which is great then you have a smaller one for longer range that you can flip up. Definitely cool but I'm looking for an All in One like a buckhorn or similar.

Red Dot is still the best Close Quarter Site, with BUIS

Anything “open” loses the benefit of the peep sight.

A red dot will be the fastest by far, and it's not even close. Get an Aimpoint PRO if you're worried about reliability. Get a Holosun or Primary Arms if you're on a budget.

If you're dead set on iron sights, some versions of the A.R.MS. #40 have notches above the ghost ring. They won't be any faster than peep sights, since you still have to align 3 planes (front sight, rear sight, & target) versus a Red Dot's 2 planes (optic & target).

Look at Magpul, Troy, etc but also look in on MaTech BUIS, another one is KAC which is also combat tested.

As Back Ups for your Red Dot.

OP, how about using the larger aperture of your rear sight, with a target focus?

I haven’t seen any “v notch” shotgun style rear sight for AR but if you find one, that could be an option

Tbh, get a red dot is the best answer. Buy nice or buy twice so get an aimpoint, trijicon or eotech, imho

I do have an Aimpoint already for a different gun and I love it. Of course that's the best route. I was just looking to build a strictly iron sights build. So looking for the best option for all around iron sights. I noticed AR15 sights are almost always "bullseye" type sights. I do like the bullseye design my favorite so far being the Troy battle sight that looks like this...

This sight works very well with the white lines, it makes it very easy to tell when your front sight is dead center.

The MaTech rear sight is nice also but has some downsides that it is compromised on close range but it is good for long range with the range adjustments. But the peep hole is too small for quick acquisition.

Again, not sure if it exists but I can see something with a completely open top sight working well. That way when you're bringing the gun into position on target the rear sight has less area blocking your view of the front sight.

Hmm a V notch like on a shotgun i think would work well. I'll have to look into what's available. What do you mean by using the larger aperture but with a target focus?

The closest thing I can think of that matches up to your description would be referred to as "express" sights. I think XS made some for the AR platform. Its an open V in the rear and a big post/dot in the front.

Diopter rear sights are my favorite. But nothing beats a RDS.

What I meant was to use the large aperture on your Troy sight, and focus on the target and put the blurry front post over the target and break the shot
