Need help choosing scope

fathers day is rolling around and I want to pick him up a scope for his new rifle, he has a browning x-bolt in .300wsm he won at a ca waterfowl dinner. my price range would be around 400-500 bucks what would best match up with his rifle?

What does he plan to do with it? Does he hunt? Deer? Elk?

If hunting is his game, then get a Leupold Vari-XIII 3-9x40 or a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40.

If he also likes to target shoot, you can maybe go to 4-12x40 magnification.

Sounds like a Nikon Monarch Gold would work pretty good.
Very nice scopes for the money imho.
