Ok, can I get a nice, milled OLL AK style receiver in Ca. ? I want to make a legal fixed mag build. I checked out the Arsenal website (their SA and SAS are listed as OLL), but they do not show where to get one in Ca.- or if you even can.

Any and all help is appreciated.

there are tons of "kits" - you need to bend the receiver - its flat sheet metal - some are pre-drilled, some come with hole templates

he wants milled. you don't bend and few have the capbility to mill one. the shadetree build is to reweld the rec. stubs. i've seen some really nice ones but this is beyond my welding skills or equipment.

          TFL, Lancaster and Arsenal.

Lancaster will ship direct, the others you'll need a middleman.

If you have a milled kit, Turbothis on AK forum will weld it back together he does great work. I think his price is $350 I think the receivers are a similar price. But this way you get an assembled gun back.

Lancaster no longer ships direct as of May 15, you have to go through a dealer to get one of their beautys.

Thanks guys. I really like the Arsenal but it sounds like the Landcaster is just as good- or better. I took a couple shop names from the list (Northern Ca.) and I'm gonna try and get one. I tried Canyon Sports in Martinez first- it is close and I have purchase other stuff from them over the last few years. They kind of put me off. I didn't talk to Ron, but one of the other guys (I didn't write down his name) asked me why I did'nt just buy an OLL AR, then told me they would not order the OLL I wanted. ???? To be fair, it was over the phone.

I'll try Triple A's in Vallejo and Irvington Arms in Fremont tomorrow.

Thanks again for all the advice! As soon as I can secure a OLL, I'll need to find a good BB.

How much trouble would it be to build a stamped kit on a milled receiver? Does the barrel just press and get pinned?

Its been done, you have to mill/grind down the stubs to fit in the stamped receiver. I don't think its really ideal. I just welded mine back together Vz58 on the akforum sells repair plates, or you can mill them yourself or use sheet or box tubing for the patches. The weld way is more original and keeps the spirit of the milled gun, but its still a homebuilt.

There are press in barrels for milled kits but I personally wouldn't try it, those kits are too expensive and the reciever is too expensive to mess up.

He is asking if its possible to build a STAMPED kit on a MILLED RECIEVER. Its been done the other way around tons of times though.

oh gotcha missed that. I don't see why that would be a problem. But like you mentioned why? Those receivers are a lot of $$$ you could buy what 4 nodak receivers for the same $

yeah its not worth it, most milled kits are threaded barrels and milled recv'rs are expensive, plus im not sure the dimensions of the stamped barrel will fit the milled reciever. Although it is a cool idea.

If I had all the parts from a milled receiver rifle, but the receiver, can I buy a non-listed milled receiver and put it together without major gunsmthing? (using a fixed 10 round mag system)
