Please help me end this mindless debate...

HELP!! I want to take the "plunge" too...

I am however debating which to get. I am looking at Stag, Double Star and CMMG. All are about the same price and the on-line photos make them look about the same quality. Would some of you that have one or more of the above chime in and give me your opinion?

I know a lot of you will say use the search function... I did... but reading through 25 pages of posts for each brand was driving me to drink!

Also, the most important Q... is the Rock River Arms LAR-15 OK to purchase? I did not see it named on the "list", but there are other RRAs listed. The RRA is what I really would like to get.

    Thanks,

The RRA LAR-15 is OK to purchase. Get whichever lower you really want, that's what matters most.

The CMMG and Stag as well as the Double Starr are all good recievers, Stag probably has the best warranty reputation. They go out of their way and then some to help customers out. In the end buy the reciever that has the logo you like best.

CMMG has the nicest finish of the three (Its super smooth) The Stag's finish feels like a chalkboard and is rough...Ive never held a doublestar though

All receivers you mentioned are good. It's a difficult choice. I say, get them all.

And why don't you get yourself a MEGA Gator or a Spike?

I am very happy with my Stag. I'll tell you how the CMMG and Superior Arms ones are in about ten days.

Unless you're going to polish it and put it in a glass case, buy anyone of them. They're guns, not art pieces.

                    How I pick my lowers:
1.Which logo I like the best.
2.Warranty .Even though it's rare to break a lower. I got a stag because they gave the guy that broke his trigger guard, a new lower.
                    3.Price

Funny, I have all 3. Stag had the worst finish but best cleanup of forge marks. Also, it was too tight on my uppers at the rear takedown pin and required a little grinding on my upper to fit properly. CMMG and DS are exactly the same except for the logo, same forging, same machining, same finish. Finish is great on both and better than Stag. The only difference between the two is the cleanup of the forging mark above the pistol grip, DS is cleaned up better. I'll post a couple pics in a bit with all of them lined up.

Last 3 and darn 10 second limit too!

eta: Double Star - CMMG - Stag
Notice the lighter, drier finish on the Stag. It appears to be simply hard anodized and thats it. It's not as gray though as the camera makes it appear but it is lighter than the other two. There was also a tiny area where the anodizing or finish coating didn't seem to take as well but it's not shown in the pics very well. You can also see the pocket for the rear take down lug is mil-spec on DS and CMMG but not Stag. Does this mean anything too us? NO, so I wouldn't worry about it. It also looks like Stag uses a drum sander to clean up the forging marks where DS and CMMG mills it. And about the cleanup on the Cmmg. Well, maybe I got one that missed the finishing operation, maybe I didn't. But for the price, DS was the best buy out of all 3 but not the cheapest. I paid $95(Stag), $100(DS), $120(CMMG) respectively. Hope this helps not only the original poster but everyone who reads this.
