In case anyone else pondering this choice.
Both made very well good quality and fit.
I will say the finish for the Airborne in DDC does get a small minus due to the fact that the shaft and the handles are a different shade. Very subtle but noticeable and of course is clearly stated in their DDC disclaimer. But again it’s a little weird they can’t get the color the same. I can understand the charging handle being a different color then hand guard but why can’t they anodize the shaft and handles together? I’m sure there is a good reason but I digress....
The one difference when having them side by side is that when pulling the Raptor handles the spring is very firm and has a very positive feeling to it. Very clicky for lack of a better word.
The Airborne has a much softer spring and feels mushier. Not in a bad way. It’s easier to get the latch to release vs the R but it just feels a little softer and less positive than the R. The throw of the handles also feels longer then the R. Less clicky and less of that positive feel.
The handles are a few mil wider with the AB. And it has the suppressor ridge (which I’ll prob never get to take advantage of). No difficulty racking either or fingers slipping off. Very well textured. I was considering the R SD-SL but seemed a bit LARP-y for a CA gun and extended back order for Radian Brown version.
But again I bet both do a fine job and work under very adverse conditions. But just in case someone was pondering this choice like me.
I’m picking the Raptor even though the Radian Brown doesn’t quite match my DDC MK16 handguard. I like the positive almost too tight and needs to be worn in feel vs the very easy and feels like a well worn shoe that is super comfy but will probably need to be replaced after wearing them a for another 5-6 months feel. (Again to emphasize I don’t think the G AB will wear out or need replacing. It just has that well worn in feel)
