    None. Featureless is better.

They are all just tolerable at best. They all add additional steps to clear malfunctions, disassembly for cleaning, loading and just about every function you can think of for the operation of an AR. I’m sure plenty will come alone and argue differently but AR owners are screwed in California. All mag locks pretty much render your are AR a range toy.

If you make your AR featureless you retain the ability to use the regular mag release. If you bought any 30 round magazines during “Freedom Week” you also are able to use them. I use Sparrow Dynamic AR grips on all my AR and made them featureless. Yeah it may look a little ugly but it’s fully functional, no extra steps or gadgets I need to install.

      My thoughts...

Good luck and welcome back to the game.

I went featureless with a Thordsen stock. Can't get myself to do the fin thing on the grip. My buddy who's an ex-marine actually thought it looked 'even meaner' LOL! Way to go, Commiefornia!

No advantage at all. In fact, it makes your gun harder to operate. Featureless all the way.

I went with the Thordsen Gen III stock which is superior to any finned grip.

I own both maglock and featureless, and I think they both run fine but featureless as stated above gets the edge. I enjoy running a regular mag release and 30-round magazines on my featureless as well clear malfunctions quickly like a normal AR (Maglock tho isn’t hard to clear malfunction, just a extra step).

There are pros and cons to both featureless and fixed mag options. And many variations within those options with their own pros and cons, so you might get a ton of different responses (and neither is right or wrong). You need to determine what is important for you and what purpose the rifle will have for you. We are biased because we make a featureless grip, but we believe that a normal mag release and normal capacity magazines make for a fully functional rifle with the cons being that it looks odd at first and you hold it a little differently.

I have one featureless lower and one with the ARMaglock and Kingpin. I wanted a rifle with a normal pistol grip and a flash hider, thus the maglock. The operation is brilliant in its simplicity. The replacement mag release has an additional tab on it that contacts the upper receiver when it is pressed. That prevents the magazine from releasing, until the upper is raised by pushing the Kingpin in. The upper receiver moves upward enough to allow the tab to move inward, releasing the mag catch. The Kingpin has a notch in it. When it is pushed, the notch moves over the locating boss on the upper receiver, allowing the receiver to move up just enough. The pin can be removed by rotating it 180 degrees, allowing the receivers to be separated completely.

I agree with the featureless crowd, that's the way to go.

But a lot of people prefer mag locks and there are a bunch of posts about the various ways to do them. I used this http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1366673 for my one locked range toy. Simple, cheap, easy to reverse, and the only damage is a small hidden threaded hole. But the mag is locked in place until you remove it by opening up the action and back off the set screw, unlike other maglocked options where you can drop the mag by cracking open the action. That is a disadvantage if you want to drop mags to reload. I just use MA loaders, and they work great.

Imho, go featureless if you want to drop mags to reload.

I have both. My maglock setup is armaglock gen 4 with kingpin. Last round bolt hold open and easy to take off of you need to split both halfs

For me, featureless sucks. I went that way at first.
Having to contort your hand around a fin or other type grip is uncomfortable and feels unnatural.
Plus you have to remove the flash hider, get a different stock or pin your collapsible one so it is not functional.
But, you can use 10+ mags if you want to!!

I went with a ARMaglock Gen 4 and Kingpin and have my pistol grip back, collapsible stock back, etc.
I am happy with that setup.

                        No 10+ mags allowed though.

Please vote, and support pro-2A groups like FPC, CRPA, Gun Owners of CA, and California Gun Rights Foundation. Those groups will send emails (some more than others, and some are annoying), BUT they do fight for us with lobbying and lawsuits, AND they will keep you informed.
