    Norinco SKS 'paratrooper carbine'

Picked this up today, a commercial Norinco 'paratrooper' carbine. I know it is a commercially made firearm and was not an issue item. This one is pretty much unused with minimal wear on the inside of the receiver and a mirror bore.

I'm anxious to try it and see if losing 4" from the barrel did anything good or bad to accuracy. I've had only one SKS that shot well, that being a 59/66 at 2.5" at 100 yards. The rest over the years from a ChiCom Vietnam bring back, through Norinco commercial models, to Yugo 59s have been 3-4" groups at 100 yards.

I miss my SKS. I foolishly sold it along with a Mosin Nagant to come up with some scratch to help fund my first AR build.

All SKS carbines were made for the Chinese military.

The "para" types were later modified and imported into the US for commercial sale.

The shorter "para" types are my favorite type of SKS to shoot.
        Poke'm with a stick!

Dang that's sweet OP. Too bad those are going for rip-off prices lately.

It won't improve accuracy, but they're a hoot to shoot. I wanted to get one back in the day (early '90's - had to pay $79.95 for MINE, because I'd JUST missed out on the $59 ones!), but had to settle for the standard Norinco.

            What I REALLY miss, is Norinco 7.62 and .223 at $.99/box o' 20!

They need the hard chi-com primers. US made primers are too soft for the SKS typically. If you were already using the harder primers, the SKS is known for getting some corrosive gunk inside the firing pin channel and getting sticky. The bolt and firing pin may need to be disassembled and cleaned.

With the shortened gas-tube and piston, it's one of the more uncommon "paratrooper" style sks variant.

                    Nice catch.

I have the same one and love it. Been getting light strikes lately. Gonna order a new hammer spring for it. Already disassembled the bolt and it was all clean. It just dimples the rounds but my AK sets them off fine. Overall a neat rifle tho.

Took it to the range on Saturday to sight it in. At 50 yards with Tula ball all rounds stayed in the 10 ring with no trouble despite the wonky, gritty trigger.

The range was so busy that I wasn't able to further sight it on the 100 yard line. That gives me an excuse to go back for another round of fun! The wife authorized purchasing 920 rounds of Tula from a chap who was liquidating his Sovietski stuff, so with 1,300 rounds of ball now on hand, I'm ready to shoot this thing a lot.
