    What is this (ak stock?)

On the top is what looks like an AK variant with a regular rifle stock (sporter?)
Is this a special gun or is there a stock available that can simulate or duplicate this? I see that the trigger has been moved back to where the pistol grip normally protrudes. Thanks in advance if you know.

That's a saiga. Theyre AKs that were imported in a sporterized / hunting rifle configuration. They're Russian AK variants. But they're great for those of us in CA since they're already featureless and have a natural rifle stock instead a fun grip.

You can still find them on the secondary market but they'll be pretty pricy since they're no longer imported into the US.

If you're interested in one, Leee Armory makes an AK Hunter rifle from surplus Romanian parts that looks like a saiga. You'll be able to find one of these cheaper than a Russian saiga

That appears to be a Saiga sporter rifle as imported.

Thanks, I was hoping to find something that would convert my wasr 10, like maybe a replacement stock with a more traditional angle, thinking it would sit below the back of the rifle rather than behind it (trigger could stay in same locstion) a little like how the Thompson (tommy gun ) is mounted.

If you want a Saiga sporter, buy one. It would be a PITA and expensive for someone to convert a WASR or other AK because, you would have to move the FCG which means, cutting and drilling the receiver and welding up the old holes.

Thordsen makes a stock for AKs. I haven't shouldered or held one of these, but grip angle might be more along the lines of what you're looking for.

I've been wondering if anyone makes a "Saiga" type receiver and fcg that a regular AK kit can used to build a "Saiga"....yes this is an @$$-backward question but a hunter config AK in CA would be a nice option to the Mini30. Bad thing about Saigas are they don't have the bullet guide so you're stuck using Saiga mags until you install one to allow use if AK mags

Like a post above mentioned, Lee Armory makes one. The front end is converted to a regular akm, but the rear was kept as a Saiga type receiver. It also accepts standard ak mags. I don’t think you can buy just the receiver though you have to buy the whole gun. I found one at a local gun store on consignment. It was so random as they hardly have anything on consignment and this was there, something not really that common. The trigger spring needed replacing but other than that, is a great gun. I don’t know if it’s over $1000 great, mine was $700.

I think you can get it in a brown color too if you don’t like the red stock.

I had Childers make me a custom AK receiver awhile back, they may be willing to make a Saiga receiver. No harm is asking...

The only difference should be the hammer and trigger pin hole location, and forego the hole for the bolt turning rivet

people liked to convert them to standard ak47s. I have one converted by Atlantic firearms I overpaid but I have a standard lug to mount a bayonet very nice rifles weather you decide to convert them or not.

I have a Lee Armory Hunter with the brown wood stock. It's been reliable and accurate enough for me. I like it a lot. There is nothing else like it as far as I now other than a Saiga. Mine has a Texas Weapon Systems dogleg rail with a Leupold Deltapoint Pro and a TLR-7 tactical light. I'm not an expert on AKs but I believe it has high quality parts and I think it was worth the price of $999.
