    LaRue Tactical DMR-16 Opinions?

About to order one. Pretty much sold on it just wanted to see if anyone has any personal experiences as far as accuracy. Any suggestions for an appropriate target optic to compliment my T1? Preferably something under or around $600 Was considering a Kronus M30 for bench plinking but I'm assuming this aint no tack driver past 100 150. If you've got one let me know how far a newb can comfortably reach out.

why wouldnt you get one into the state? UPS doesnt ship into CA? As far as to how far it will shoot. That is largely dependant on what ammo you shoot and how steady you can keep the weapon. I had a 16" bull barreled ar with a good trigger and I used to shoot it at 12" steel plates out to 500 yrds+. I didnt hit them everytime but it was alot of fun to try.

Its a percision upper with a match grade barrel...Not the kind of gun you want to stick a aimpoint on and go plinking at the range with.

Also the barrel profile makes its alittle heavy. Something to think about if you have to lift the gun up a few hundred times doing drills. In short I dont think this upper fits your needs. Ive owned a larue upper in the past, I have since sold it.

What gives you the impression that LaRue doesn't ship products to California?

Could it be because of the irrational and heavy handed way in which we handled the lower situation? I've spoken to some folks locally that arent even members of this forum who've chosen to form opinions based on little more than drama and tertiary information.

Anyways. I own one, and an 18" as well. It drives tacks. Shoots anything I have fed it so far (wolf, filipino surplus, win, rem, hornady, etc) with zero malfunctions. Probably put about 1500 through it so far. I love it. You won't be dissapointed. Fit an finish rival that of the best (Noveske, etc) You will love it.

How far out are you comfortable/capable with the 16" from a bench?

I was under the impression that he wanted the complete rifle. I am fully aware of the whole Larue situation. Was in the discussion long before it made its way to this site, have been reading it on arfcom for quite some time.

Larue will not ship lowers to Cali.

I haven't pushed these yet, but will soon and plan to do a write up. I have key holed 3 shot groups from 200 with my 18 (scoped). The 16 has keyholed in the standing, no sling, at 25 yards (iron sights).

I went on a business trip to China Lake and brought out my 18". The 16" has been to Iron Sights in Oside and that is about it lol.

If it's your only upper it's a good deal because you've got your match-quality barrel but it can do double-duty as a carbine-type fighting rifle in a pinch.

In my case I have a longer match upper (18" SPR) so my 16" is a BCM middie, which is set up just like the LaRue but comes out a lot cheaper. I think it was $475 for the upper, $250 for a used DD Omega rail, and $140 for a BCG so that's $865.

I just had an interesting conversation with LaRue about the DMR-16.
It turns out the DMR and the Stealth uppers are essentially the same system since they have the same barrel. Which made me ask why would they offer the DMR then? Well, LaRue built the DMR for MIL audiences that want to share the same look so when everyone rolls out from FOB, enemy snipers can't pick out the DMR from the other M4-toting death stalkers.

I don't know...assuming a DMR would have a scope on it, his rifle would already look like a sniper rifle.

It also makes a good option for people who prefer a fixed FSB.
