    Sling Mounts

So I am about 90% done finishing my first AR/Build. I just need the extra furniture which is already ordered. I just bought a sling but it needs a couple mounts. I’m looking around and I really like the low profile of the fixed bipod studs, basically a swivel stud that doesn’t swivel. But I’m worried the functionality of the swivel stud is ideal for a sling.

    Does it matter?

I just don’t like how much the swivel stud mounts stick off the Handguard.

QD swivels don't rotate. That's an option. Have Magpul and arisaka qd mlok mounts for my slings. Work great and low profile. Get whichever is cheaper.

What handguard & stock are you running? Some have built QD mounts built in.

Depends on the mount. There are full rotation, limited rotation, and no rotation.

Go to Midway and find Grove-Tec QD Sling Swivels and Swivel Sockets.

They the least expensive and best quality out there. 1/4 the cost of similar Magpul pieces. Get the limited Rotation Sockets.

IF you are getting Magpul Furniture You will need a bolt on socket for the fore end and two sockets for the butt stock, one on each side.

When carrying the gun cross body you will attach the sling to the right side of the stock. This keeps the gun against you. When carrying conventionally you mount the sling to the left side of the stock which again, keeps the gun against you.

Leave the bipod off the gun as much as possible. You don't really need it and it just adds extra weight to the gun which you have to carry. This gets old fast.

Well the issue is the sling I bought, quake claw, has built in quick connect mounts for swivels studs (these are different than QD connectors/mounts). The sling is highly rated/recommend. I don’t have it yet so I cannot tell if the mounts are sewn into a loop or if they can be removed in place of another mount type. My rail does not have a built in QD mount. I do like the concept of QD mounts but for now I just want to make the sling work with what it has. I guess my main concern is if the stud the quick connect mount hooks into needs to swivel or if a fixed stud is fine.
The fixed stud mounts have the holes straight up and down so the sling will be positioned laterally coming off the mount. Will that be a problem or will the slack in the connector and the sling take up whatever direction the sling needs to go when wearing it? What I’m asking is if the angle of the stud matters. If so then I would need to buy one swivel mount instead of a fixed mount so it can angle itself which ever way the sling pulls on the rifle. Only issue is they are bulky and aesthetically DISpleasing lol. If it’s not an issue then great I’ll grab a 5 dollar fixed stud until I decide to switch over to QD hardware/sling.

If the wrong sling is bought, there are these adapters on the market:

Sometimes the cross-pin-type sling swivel parts can be removed, other times the maker has sewn-on the cross-pin-swivels not making it worth it to change out.

QD seems to be here to stay and is becoming (or has become) the standard for AR-type guns.

Slings are great to have unless you've got one you don't like
I just use those Magpul MS1 and MS3 slings which may, arguably, not be the best or the least costly, but have a variety of attachment accessories available. These slings and accessories are also relatively easy to find in stock in a few places where I shop.

NO reason for a rilfe under 18.5" to have a bipod. If you want an SPR, you need a LONGER rifle than 16"

Account/password issues with my gmail account and username on this site. I wanted to buy something off the classifieds and didn't want to wait to get that figured out.
really weird how it just changed my UN back to twentyegs as soon as I signed in with it again. Maybe this forum tracks IP/Device ID or something.
