I have the latest version and it uses a flathead screw to adjust the tension on the expandable insert that is built into the side of the compmag. Once the compmag is inserted into the mag well and the screw is expanded, it creates friction so that the compmag does not drop freely. You would also need to time the screw so that you can insert the very tiny "L" shaped pin through it, thus not allowing for removal of the compmag without breaking the action. Hope this makes sense.

      AFAIK the 3 versions were:
      1) The original, discontinued one with a locking plate (like their current AK model)
      2) The current one with a friction pad and "screw head cover"
      3) The discontinued New York one with no mounting hardware, relied on other NY compliance mechanisms

The current version for the AR15 uses a slotted screw on top of the magazine and an L shaped pin to prevent manipulation of the screw from the ejection port.

Although some call it a "friction" fit, it actually has a locking bar that expands into the magazine well catch hole and mechanically locks the mag in place when properly installed.

Apparently I lied from misremembering how the AR15 Compmag functioned. The adjuster does only wedge it in place. My sincere apologies for misleading anyone.
