    AR build.

I have lowers, but haven't got around to building upper.

Given a choice for a "urban rifle", ranges of no more than 200 yards, more than likely under 100 yards, which Caliber would you pick.

I have a UB15 stock, and I have alot of pre ban 223 mags.

    .223
    6.5 grendal
    6.8

What I want is something that ammo should be avail.

The .223 has little recoil, from what I here the other calibers have modest recoil.

I am leaning toward either the 6.5 or the 6.8, both have pros and cons.
The .223 is avail, but it seems to be a weak caliber.

I would hate to build a gun on a caliber that won't be common.

You can't really go wrong with .223 for a first build. Lots of options for uppers, relatively inexpensive to shoot a lot (that's where the real fun is, right), and while not super-potent of a round, it's still good enough for NATO and our Military. I've done two so far, and have no desire yet to move on to another caliber...yet.

.223 is good out to 300 yds at least.

I would go with 223, especially if you think you might have to "aquire" ammo on the go.

If ammo availability is the priority, your only choice is 5.56.

My choice would be 5.56/.223. 5.56 is about 50 cents a round. 6.8 is around $1 per round. Get 5.56 and shoot 'em twice.

Not to point out the obvious, but all the .223 and 5.56 votes are for the same caliber. You want your upper marked 5.56 NATO, but when you buy your ammo, much of the time you'll be getting a box that says .223.

Nothing else is as common as .223 I'd start there and get an alternate upper in the future so you can still use your same lower. I would love to have a Grendal upper as well.

And you can still hit out to five hundred with .223 lots of options to play with...

5.56 isn't weak and is vastly underrated.

You can increase its efficacy by buying/loading with 77 or 75gr cannelured bullets. It's also the easiest to come by and has the highest capacity. Any of the others will cost at least 2X per round, especially in plinking ammo.
