Bought a surplus chinese sks for $550ish, worth it or not? (Include all fees and tax) how do you think?

Gun prices are very high due to supply not meeting demand during the protests/riots/looting that's amplified by everyone being off work due to the Covid pandemic.

Welcome to the forum. On your chi-com SKS, if you're happy - then it was a good deal. I own an early un-issued all-milled SKS that I wouldn't sell for $550.

You mention yours is covered in cosmoline, so I have to ask if there is any wear to the blueing or evidence the gun has been fired? If you scored an "unissued" gun then I think you did very well. If not, then you still have an excellent rifle as it's unlikely that a new SKS could be manufactured and sold at that price.

No way to know without knowing a LOT more about the gun.
Get the cosmoline off and post up hi-res pictures so people can have a REAL idea what you have.

It might be worth $350 and it might be worth $600.

It’s definitely used. I found some scratch and dents on stock.
Serial numbers are matched.
I don’t know about the blueing since I am new to the mechanic or gunsmith things.

Your description is quickly bringing the real market value more towards the $350 end than the $600 end.

You will eventually be able to get your money out of it.
It just might take 10-20 years for the market to catch up to what you paid.

I paid $80 for one 20 years ago and now people think it's worth $400.

I would find a new store/FFL if this is case..
