Lefty using righthanded AR

Does anyone know any good video clips demonstrating quick reloading techniquies for a lefty using a right handed AR?

When I shoot lefty, I use the thumb of my right hand to depress the mag release and simultaneously strip the magazine with a beer-can grip. Insert new mag with the right hand and the beer can grip again, then take left hand off of fire control to pull the charging handle by its left ear.

That last step is probably a no-no--tactical guys would probably argue that I should use my right hand in the usual slingshot/victory/peace-sign over-the-top-of-the-charging-handle method, but I've found it easier for me to do it my way since I'm a righty and my left hand is too weak to support the rifle safely only holding the pistol grip.

no videos, its kinda hard if u got a bb too.. but if your out of cali or in the military its aight. ill try to describe it.. left hand never leaves pistol grip everything is done with right hand. grab easiest to reach mag with a rock star grip on bottom of mag(right hand), hit mag release with right hand thumb, insert new mag, rotate left hand and rifle 90 degrees right so bolt release is faceing the sky and slap it home(right hand) n your ready to re engage.. theres different ways of doing it just whatever works better for the individual.

Worked great for me. Should work even better for a lefty. I made it with household stuff, but it wont cost more than 3 dollars to buy everything.

This is kinda what I have done so far. I know my index finger is long enough to hit the slide release, and my finger is strong enough to do that.

I can hit the forward assist no problem with my thumb as well and use an ambi-safety selector. Which is actually pretty nice and I would recommond even for righties because you can flip it down with your thumb and then flip it back with you index finger.....works pretty nice.

I was trying to think of a way to do it so I can release the mag w/o dropping it on the ground, I think some call it a tactical reload. I'm just thinking I would like to get out of the habit of dropping mags on the ground, because if you're in a SHTF, zombies are coming type situation, being a lone person you're not going to have an endless resupply of mags and if you're in the habit of dropping them on the ground you may quickly find yourself with a really *****in' rifle, lots of ammo stashed at home and no mags.

But having to hold pistol grip in left hand and use right hand to drop AND insert mag makes it kinda hard.

Gonna have to bust out the gear in the living room and do some practice and see what I can come up with.

I feel for you... I am lefty as well. Dad made me learn to shoot righty... In hindsight he saved me a lot of cash. LH guns are pricey.

Yep....I often think that lefties are the group that suffers the most discrimination.

I didn't go with a left handed model for a couple reasons. But the main reason being since 99.5% of any gun you might hafta pick up and use it is going to be set up for right handed use, I would rather be accustomed to using right handed gear in the event I have to pick up whatever gun is at hand to defend myself with. Where if you get your muscle memory used to strickly lefthanded models then if you pick up something else you're gonna be fumbling around for buttons that aren't where you are used to them being.

Yeah, in practice, I find myself doing way more tac reloads than emptying mags and dropping them. I've got no problem dropping empties and have done so plenty of times in the past (in other words, I'm not one to baby my magazines), but most of the time, there are a handful of rounds left that could still be useful.

I think the situation would be very different if I had nothing but >10rnd mags--I tend to shoot those till empty, then execute a speed reload. Somehow there's more of a feeling of ammo plentifulness with >10rnd mags...

I didn't think there were so many of us! I am legally blind in my right eye since birth. I shoot left handed but I am right handed so it has not been much of a problem except for occasional shell ejection bothers.
BTW, I also have a commercial pilots license. so its not the end of the world.

Isn't that kinda like asking why they have brail instructions at the drive up ATM? LOL

As for casing ejection....that can be an issue in some shooting positons. Last class I went to we were shooting in the "supine" position. Laying on your back, rifle laying on your torso shooting between your feet. I had one casing get stuck between my body and my right arm and ended up with a nice little burn on the inside of my forearm. Oh well....just part of the game.

I did a little practice last night with some 10/30 mags and came up with a way to hold the full mag to be loaded, and still hold on to the mag to be ejected, eject the mag, load the fresh one and still have the empty one in my hand. Good thing I have big hands.....might be difficult for someone with smaller hands though.
