    M1A kaboom

    Sorry, no pics (yet)
And yes I'm aware that :

A friend of mine loaned his M1A out to a relative over the weekend and it came back in a small paper bag apparently.
His relative claims 'double feed' which I find highly doubtful as the source of a major detonation.

    I'm betting on bad/crap ammo.

Anyone have thoughts? I know this is rather vague (and is definitely not a lets bash Springfield thread), but we're still trying to figure out what happened.
Thankfully, this isn't my weapon or I'd probably be curled up in a fetal position crying.

When I have pics, you'll have pics.

    B.

The kind of ammo used is rather important to know.

Wow. So now every time someone asks about an M1A can we all just say that they automatically explode all the time and are pieces of junk - just like the Kel-Tec?

I know of one that came apart, not as drastic as the one in the pic. But it was caused by the operator loading it with ammo that could make a bullet fold space. Or so he thought.

              Not.

I will take anyone's dangerous M1A off their hands. I'll give $100 for scrap. You're welcome.

                    1st guess: Ammo
                    2nd guess: operator malfunction

                      Home brew rounds?
                      The gun doesn't smell loaded.

Sometimes I think about the mil surp stuff I have laying around. Why was it rejected from service anyway?

Fascinating read - glad all my M14 barrels are either USGI or Krieger.
