Suggestions on Featureless AR 15 build other than PSA

I hope you are all well and safe under the present circumstances....

I have a stripped lower that I want to turn into a build.

The build requirements I have in mind are...

    -Featureless
    -Short and Light as possible
    -Direct impingement

I know PSA is the most popular brand for these things, Aero precision I hear a lot about....any other builds out there I should know about?

Also if anyone has a SIG M400 upper or lower for sale in Los Angeles please lmk. TIA - Mike

With a stripped lower, you can build pretty much any kind of upper you want....it boils down to:
      1- budget
      2- purpose

As for "short and light as possible", you'll need a pencil barrel, probably a 14.5" length with a pinned brake to meet OAL requirements. But make sure you get the handgaurd that you'll love because you will not be able to swap handguards unless you unpin your desired muzzle brake.

I am fairly new to the AR game (within the last 5 years) and every single handgaurd that I have used over the years (BCM, Daniel Defense, Noveske, Geissele) have all used proprietary barrel nuts, so my experience is limited to those manufacturers. Heck they even use their own wrenches! But yes, that is my point, that handguard selection is a factor to consider because swapping handguards can be a PITA.

There's at least one option right now that'll let you slide a gas block & barrel nut over; Faxon- Slim 3 port

Faxon Faxon Slim 3 Port Muzzle Brake, 5.56 | Rifles, Pistols, Rifle barrels, AR-15 parts, Pistol Parts | faxonfirearms.com

Edit: Forgot they started making barrels with integral muzzle devices:
Upgrade your AR-15 with the Faxon patented 16" pencil barrel with integral muzzle brake. 5.56 NATO, mid-length, 4150 QPQ Nitride. NFA compliant.

If short & light is your primary goal, the Pencil barrels from Faxon linked to above are great choices. I built a lightweight rifle for my wife using a 16" pencil barrel and a Midwest Industries rail, and it handles like a dream.

Go with a 16" barrel and you don't need to worry about pinning and welding the device. I use a thread protector on mine to keep the weight down, but I can always change the muzzle device later if I want (which I have done several times). It sucks to have a permanent device that you end up not liking for whatever reason - or if the laws change again [emoji3061]

Maybe you could find a Bushmaster Carbon 15. They weigh 5lbs 3 oz stock.

Mine with Magpul Furniture and a few mods weighs 6 lbs on the nose. Chrome lined barrel, glass filled polymer receivers and an excellent shooter.
