Building a reliable AR

You have 2 PSA's that work. I wouldn't worry about it.
If you insist on worrying, then Colt. The military guns are all U.S. Until proven different, I'm going to assume the commercial market ones are also. -
What part of your PSA rifles don’t work?Comment

I've had PSA builds and Gucci builds. As far as reliability goes, they have all been solid with routine oil and regular cleaning.
You can spend more for accurate parts, nicer features, more quality control, brand name recognition, or fancy coatings... But any gun can fail on you. Best bet: slap a high quality optic (your Trijicon, EOTech or Aimpoint are all excellent options) and a mounted light on your favorite PSA build and run it through a carbine course or torture test. If anything fails, consider fixing/upgrading the failed part or look at a BCM, FN, LaRue, or White Oak upper to replace it.
If you want to spend more money on a brand name rifle, then go for it - but extra "reliability" is kind of a weird thing to chase when you haven't had any issues with your current guns.

So you have $1000 to spend on just the upper?
You can buy pretty much anything you want at that price, but I wouldn’t choose an 18” barrel for a home defense gun.
I would stick with 16”, even better would be a 14.5” with a pinned muzzle device.
I’ll take weight savings and maneuverability over a slight velocity gain.
Also I would not want an ACOG on an HD weapon but that’s just me.Comment

I luvs my PSA builds, but if I was going for the 1K mark on an upper, I would do a BCM.
Mid Length 16" MK2 Recce Upper Receiver Group (Barrel Forged Hammer). This AR15 Upper comes with MCMR-15 handguard, 16in barrel & your choice of muzzle device
This + a BCG and an ambi CH will put you near enough to 1K. I think this would have good reliability if you do a good lower with it.Last edited by Rifle ronin; 05-25-2020, 7:43 AM.I dreamed of owning a (insert off roster gun here)...
Oh yeah....then the earth splits open with me on one side and the (off roster gun) on the other. Then appeared a large red-glowing pit with gavin newscum, diane frankenstein and governor "brown the drain" at the bottom of it, waving their pitchforks at me.

6920's can still be found for $1,200 +/-, with everything you need but the optic, sling, and whatever CA crap has to be stuck on them; BCM's, for a little more. Why not look into that route first?sigpicComment
