Aimpoint PRO is "duty" grade and can be had for close to $315 depending on deals. Trijicon MRO's are nice as well.

Sig, Holosun, and Primary Arms all have very good entry level red dots around or under $250. They’re all made in the same factory too.

Ive been satsified with my cheaper sig and vortex red dots. I paid only 129 for my crossfire on sale.
But the jump in quality that an mro offers is very noticeable if you can afford it get one. Have always liked my aimpoints too but the mro wins in my opinion.

          BUY once, CRY once.

I recommend you check out the BIG 3 at your favorite local gun shoppe, or from friends who already own them

          - Aimpoint
          - EOTech
          - Trijicon

See which one your eyes (consider even NAKED eye, if you wear glasses! Lens Crafter may not be open once the Apocalypse starts. They were closed during the recent flu bug... ) can focus with the best.

THEN come back here to the marketplace, and see if you can pick up a "gently used" copy, and save some bucks! I just bought an Aimpoint T-1 off the marketplace, and I'm in PA! The Calguns marketplace MIGHT be the biggest in the nation (I'm not on Barfcom, so I couldn't say), and deals abound here!

QUALITY glass at bargain prices, is a GREAT way to buy RIGHT the first time.

If you want to go inexpensive try this. I bought it, but returned it because it didn't fit a weaver mount. Seemed good quality for the money.

I'm absolutely shocked that an army of people haven't come in with pitchforks and knives chanting Bushnell TRS-25 yet.

I mean, they're not wrong though, it's cheap and pretty decent as a first. I still use it on an AK. I have Aimpoints and Eotechs but not everything always needs an Aimpoint or Eotech.

I do like Vortex for their "VIP Warranty."

OP, you will end up pointing the gun at your foot and shooting yourself if you buy any sight under $5 million dollars.

But seriously. The Sig Romeo 5 is AWESOME. I have 3 of them. Got em for about $120 with free shipping back when they were giving them away at PSA and Primary Arms. Those days are long gone, but I think PSA has them for $130-$140 plus tax and shipping.

I use them on my HD/SD guns, cowitnessed with good quality iron sights.

If you arent going to use good quality BUS, then you might want to stick to Aimpoints and Eotechs.

OP..Sig branded RDS are made by Holosun (and not even Holosun's better models). I would just get a Holosun.

I like the Leupold Deltapoint Pro, though it's not quite military grade tough. The Deltapoint Pro is a reflex sight with almost no obstruction of your view. Tube style red dot sights work, but I prefer a wide view. Although the Deltapoint Pro and others are expensive, consider that you can sell your training rifle, keep the optic, and mount the optic on whatever rifle you upgrade to.

Holosun HS512c. Has 3 different LED reticles. My favorite dot sight.

                            Do you have an astigmatism?

                            If so, consider prism optics.

I have a vortex sparc ar on my hd rifle. Want to get that holosun 512 or vortex uh1 for my AR pistol. Meprolight has a new optic that looks slick but it's like $700ish.

                              Buy quality

If buying online or used- search for How to spot a fake_____

The market is flooded with airsoft copies and outright fakes.

My eyes hate the flickering of the eotech sights. I’m happy with Trijicon and aimpoint.
