It costs more to do it right.

      Sales are a good thing.

UCT Coatings, Inc. has done this a long time.
I've been using the 2 I have for a lot of years.

I probably should have bought one of PSA's nitride BCGs for $73, since they are sending them out with "upgraded" 158 bolts due to parts shortages. But I didnt want to worry about slow shipping.
No, NIB is NOT the same as Nitriding. NIB(Nickel Boron), is a coating which can flake off. Nitride(Ferritic carburization), is a metal treatment process. The BLACK color is simply a chemical reaction and although the color can wear in time, TVs protection remains as it is a case hardening process.

        Easy to learn this correctly.

In the interest of full disclosure.

          https://www.uctcoatings.com/capabilities/coatings/ Parent company of FZ.

"EXO is a patented, nodular Nickel-Boron (NiB) surface treatment. The coating nucleates on the surface atoms of metals, becoming part of the metal rather than merely applied to the outside. In addition, the treated surface becomes harder than the substrate itself, eliminating the cost, weight and degradation problems of conventional hardened metals."

Neither is likely to happen here in San Diego where it's always 72 degrees and full auto is always illegal.

NiB also doesn't hold lube like a parked surface. It's a coating that adds additional thickness to the spec. I would avoid that on bolts. Nitride doesn't do that.

NiB doesn't negatively change the spec of the part when done properly. Coating an out of spec part causes poor fit. Nutless monkey companies produce iffy products. Out of spec.

Not all NiB companies are good at it. Look for the ones that have been doing it the longest and many of those also produce parts for aerospace industry and military.

It took Glock to bring a nitride finish to the American buying public. They have that down pat. Now there are lots of good nitride finishers in the states.

Nitride also works really well when properly applied.

Ill throw Stag BCG's into the mix too. I only have experience with their lefty bcgs, but Both are very high quality that I am sure translates to their right hand bcgs as well. I have one in an AR i built 10 years ago that is still going strong, never had a malfunction i could attribute to the bcg (mostly my stupidity). I got another Stag bolt for my current ar10 build and its QPQ nitride treated and feels very well made. It seems to cycle well too, but I havent gotten to shoot it yet so I will see once i take it to the range.

                      Agreed.

I have run Colt for decades. Daniel Defense will be here next week to try out. I already like Daniel Defense warranty and customer service. They have sent me a bunch of free stuff.

So for me Colt, BCM and possibly Daniel Defense.
