    1963 Romanian military surplus

I'm planning to purchase a diy surplus barrelled reciever only from Atlantic for $619, anybody have any experience with this kit? And the only reason I haven't mad the purchase yet is it doesn't mention chrome lined barrel. Would this be a good deal or I have better options for the money?

The barrel material is mentioned in every model Atlantic sells... One is chrome lined. The other three are nitrided.

I have both types. It won't make any difference to you. Both are fine barrels.

Look on their site and look at the description of what each barreled receiver has in it's specifications.

      For the $619 listing

      "Original Romanian Military Surplus
      Model 1963
4150 V Nitride treated threaded barrel
Barreled receiver do it yourself kit
      Customize your build"
      Poke'm with a stick!

        If you're talking about this:

        It's a US-made nitrided barrel.

All things considered, that's not a bad price. Just need cheap furniture from Atlantic, and you'd have an AK for about $700

I bought the DIY barreled receiver from them a few years back when it was about $500ish

Its a 4150 nitride barrel. A fun thing to buy if you wanna personalize out the rifle

Romanian rifle is gonna be a lot easier to find stocks, handguards, etc for. The Zpap is going to use yugo exclusive parts, which are available, but less options

The cost of a kit these days is $500. You still need to spend $100 on flat and compliance parts so $600 and a weekend to build one if you have all the tools needed.

$619 Seems like a good deal.

Why not just buy a WASR from Atlantic? Complete firearm ready to go with a warranty. Made by communists who have been doing it the same way for a long time.

I haven't seen or held a zpap, but I do have an Opap and plenty of other AKs for comparison

The main difference between the Romanian DIY kit fr Atlantic and a Zpap would be the furniture... The Romanian can take standard AK/AKM/74 types of furniture. I put a Rak1 trigger in mine, but you can put whatever trigger you want.

Since the kit itself had used and worn looking components, I decided to get some BFPU furniture to throw on it

I think it's getting pretty hard to justify the current price of a wasr. After shipping, transfer fee, Dros, and tax, you're gonna be looking at $1000 for a wasr today. That's about how much I'm expecting to pay once I buy the new Zastava M70 with chf cl barrel, bulged trunnion and thicker receiver

If knew I was gonna be paying that much otd, I'd buy something a little more higher up the chain than a wasr if I wanted an AK
