Law tac adds length and weight.
So shorter buttstock (lwrc ultra compact)

It's a cool gizmo but relatively useless unless it's a truck gun, back packing or set up to fit in a small case for travel. Novelty stuff
I have one on a rifle. Cool but definitely adds some weight in the back

Here's an old arf thread with good pics

Oal has to remain at 26" with the stock folded. That's how I understood it. Btw I have a law folder on an AR pistol and it's the bees knees

I have several guns designed with folding stocks outside of CA. The funny thing is, I rarely fold their stocks other than the one I carry in a backpack (I just love our CCW laws in NV.) Most of them are stored with their stocks open as they take up less space that way. I have a Law Tactical folder I have yet installed, but as dousan said, it is a novelty to me. If I have to carry an AR pistol in a backpack, I would install it, but there are so many other choices available for a backpack gun now. If you must have a backpack AR, consider the Sig Rattler.

          Yup
I have one a 11.5 pistol too for the truck! Itll also be thr 300bo one which will very easily fit in a backpack.

When shooting i throw my gear in a pelican case. The sbrs, 12" has to be separated but the 10.3" can fit, barely. Pistol, mags etc all fit in case. Also tools suppressors and anything else to keep from rolling around

But I could also just separate them..so again..
Novelty lol. It is cool though.
Also being a rifle i sometimes just throw it in the front seat. Ahh loving living outside CA. With ccw pistol too. Going to range im organized leaving i just throw stuff back in car anywhere

Check out to see if can run it, as enorbit mentioned. And then consider the cost and is it actually worth it. Because new is 230ish with brownells code and good timing on the buy

I thought CA OAL was 30". When I purchased my MCX several years ago, it had a side folding stock, which was nice, but the muzzle brake was around 8" long so even when it was folded, it would be above 30". Fugly thing, which I remedied as soon as I could.
Too many rifles, not enough time...

30" applies for rifles but not pistols. If you have rifle, then, yes it will have to be OAL at least 30" in its shortest configuration. To the OPs question. The only technically feasible way to have a folder is if the gun cannot fire even a single round in its folded state. I don't know of anyway to do that currently, but I haven't really looked into it. Perhaps someone else knows some way that I haven't seen.

Folk, the OP already said it is a registered AW. The 30" limit does not apply. The Federal limit of 26" applies to avoid SBR status, which won't be a problem with a 16" barrel and the folder.

I have one on these folders on a registered AW also. It increases the length by about one click on an adjustable stock. Since I don't run the stock "all the way in", I didn't need to make any changes.

There isn't much you can do if you run a fixed stock or if your stock is at the meeting minimum adjustment point. The folding mechanism isn't two dimensional. It has some length to it. Most stocks assume the length of the buffer tube, so a shorter tube wouldn't help. You could find a shorter length of pull stock.

Put a BRN-180 upper on it. It's a piston design with no buffer needed. You can then put an adapter on the lower like the Pic rail SIG uses. They make at least 3 different style folders, or a folding AR tube adapter to use AR stocks. There might also be folder adapter that screw directly into the lower. There are a few on the market intended for MAC machine guns with AR stock adapters.

The AR in question is a LWRC. These do look cool. Need to make sure it does not make the rifle too short

I was thinking more for transporting in a smaller case.

Ca Registered AW only has to be 26 inches just like other states

That would be nice except this AR is a LWRC. Better to leave it as is.
