    Remington 700 Safety Click Tip

When I push the safety lever forward on my new Rem 700 it makes a hearable "click" sound. In fact, I read in the gun-tests.com where they criticized this rifle's safety as being loud.

Elsewhere, our team found other items they didn’t like. The 700 CDL’s safety was noisy and snappy going on and off, compared to the silent operation of the Savage and the Browning. Also, where both the Browning and the Savage had floated barrels, there was heavy contact of the barrel and forearm in the 700CDL.

I find if I apply just a bit of left-ward (toward the center of the bore) pressure with my thumb as I push the safety lever forward the safety disengages silently.

Just thought I would throw this out to hunters with this rifle.

Hmm. I'm also of the opinion that if your target can hear the click of the safety, you're probably too close?

If a target comes walking past at 50yards, are you going to hall *** to get a 150yrds farther back?

Do animals usually stop and turn when they hear a sound? It may help or could hurt the situation. I have had deer stop, turn and snort at me when they became aware of my presence. There are many factors that could give away a hunter's position. If you feel that it gives an advantage, do it...

...and why exactly would you have your safety on when you're actually on the hunt? Use proper trigger control and you don't need to have your safety engaged. It's the last thing I'd want to remember when I'm all excited about seeing that perfect shot. I mean people have hunted for hundreds of years with rifles not having safeties. Hopefully you're not hunting with your benchrest 4-oz trigger setting, but instead using something at least 2-3 lbs to avoid accidental trigger pulls if it gets stuck on branches or whatnot.

Are you joking?!!! Always have your safety on when you hunt. Always. Excited hunters + no safety = accident. I would be willing to bet you don't hunt or you failed hunters safety. This is so basic it is ridiculous.

Just cover the Remington safety with the pad of your thumb and push it forward. It will not make a sound this way. It takes all of 0.5 seconds.

LOL I do hunt, and what should be basic is trigger control as a means of safety, NOT an actual safety mechanism. That's fine and dandy when the rifle is somewhere around people, but not when you need to use it. Exactly what sort of accident could happen if the safety is off? I said "when you're on the hunt"... If you're dumb enough to 'accidentally' look down your barrel and 'accidentally' pull the trigger when you're on the hunt, well, you're just proving Darwin right...

The chance of accidents in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing is miniscule, close to zero. In the hands of people who don't practice safe shooting practices, yes I agree they should walk around with their safeties engaged. But hey, that's just me. You carry however you want.

timney trigger- I think the safety is .00005 decibles lower than the stock safety....

Game in these parts to a quick drop and roll with return fire if they hear the click of a remmy 700 safety...
