    ar15 Pic Request 15" Handguards 14.5" BBLS

    Hello Everyone

I'v got a rather specific request if anyone can help me out here. The more the better!

I'd like some pics of your ar build with 15" handguards and 14.5" barrels
specifically with a 2" Muzzle Device to reach OAL

Im looking at the Synergy Linear Hybrid comp and its legnth is 2". I'd love some visuals before I place the order.

    Thanks

A 2" long muzzle device won't quite reach 16" when installed on a 14.5" barrel because the muzzle threads are 5/8" long.
The muzzle device and associated shims/washers overlaps the barrel by the length of the threads.
Muzzle devices designed to exceed 16" when installed on 14.5" barrels are usually 2.1" long if they use a crush washer or 2.2" long if they use shims.
A 2" long muzzle device would typically need 2 crush washers to exceed 16".

Barrel, sight and trigger work on most pistols and shotguns.
    Most work performed while-you-wait.

Thank you for that! Makes total sense. You worked on my AK a few years back and I wanted to contact you about possibly pinning this guy for me.

Do you reccomend I go with a longer comport will the shims suffice?

the SLR comp will barely make legal but works, see specs below. Can always use another crush washer or timing washers to add .05" to the length before you pin and weld.

          Shims will be fine.
Just know that you will probably need at least an extra 1/16" of shims behind a crush washer to reach length.
This is not a problem with your 15" handguard as the handguard should be covering the shims and the crush washer and the back of the muzzle device.

FWIW, here is a 12.5" hand guard with a 16.1" barrel; a 9.5" hand guard with a 14.5" barrel with a brake pinned and welded; and a 15.5" hand guard with a 20" barrel. (the top upper is just mocked up for the photo, I haven't actually built it yet.

I lined them up so the hand guards are all even on the left side of the mat (outside the edge of the photo.)

Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.
