It is an excellent brake. To get a more effective one Ron Smith would get some of my money and that I cannot stomach.Comment

I concur, a great brake and very reasonably priced and it doesn't hamper accuracy at all. A lot of internet know-it-all types talk it down but I doubt most have never even tried it.Comment

So there is no real reason why this guy hates the M14....he hates how the Army went about testing it and using it(in conflicts he hasnt served in, so hes rehashing what hes heard) and, according to his logic, the argument could be made that the m16 is a terrible weapon because it was rushed into service.
Really this guy has a problem with the US Army and the bureaucracy of how they handle things and takes it out on the rifles. Which, for any of us who have served or worked for the government know, is pretty much normal operations.I"m just a PA native trying to understand CA laws

The round is too powerful making the gun impossible to control in automatic fire. Really defeating its main purpose.
Really, the M14 should never have been designed. It was only in service between 1959 and 1965.
By the end of WWII, it became apparent that shorter range automatic rifles with lighter recoiling cartridges capable of laying down suppressive fire accurately at a range of 300meters or less, was the future.Last edited by Tere_Hanges; 03-07-2020, 10:24 AM.CRPA and NRA member.

That guy is long winded and likes to hear himself talk. But the gist is that the M14 was poorly conceived, obsolete at the time of development and fielding and really was unusable in automatic mode. The idea was that the M14 would replace the SMG, carbine, rifle, and automatic rifle. Which was just completely assinine.

I have a never fired Springfield scout that ill trade to anyone for a full length barrel M1a of equal quality.Previous iTrader rating, over 150 Positive ratingsComment

I got an 18" Scout and a 22" NM.
I shoot the scout more often. I put a cheap bushnell TRS-25 on the scout rail. It works great.
Never had any issues whatsoever with either of my M1As. They seem pretty solid and reliable. Eat pretty much anything. More accurate than me. Only cons are mounting a magnified optic is awkward as hell and they are way over priced. A basic M1A scout or loaded should be no more than $800 tops.
I cannot run any kind of magnified optic on an M1A. It just doesnt work. The scope is so high up that the butt rests way low on my torso. So low that the shoulder rest (thing that goes up) is useless. The stock ends up slipping down after ever shot. The M1A simply was not designed for a magnified optic.
Here's red dot with co-witness.

Have an M1A Standard with the wood stock on it, I just rock it stock with iron sights and it shoots better than me. I cant hit 300 yard steel plates all day with zero effort, and provided I take my sweet time and provide the proper level of Kentucky windage based on the current winds at the range, I can put the majority of my shots onto the 400 and 500 meter plates as well.
I think the only complaint I have with the rifle at this point is inserting and removing magazines from it is a pain in the *** compared to almost every other detachable magazine rifle I've handled. Honestly it sometimes makes me half tempted to just transition to utilizing the stripper clip guide and feeding it like a larger-capacity M1 Garand instead.Comment

For # 54, we had m14 rifles in Europe up to the middle of '67 with the AR's being issued in June July etc at the Husterhoh Kasern in Pirmasens, West Germany. Just passing this along. I was in HHQ 59th Ordnance Group, AWSCOM. Any AWSCOM guys out there ? 65 to 67 ?
