There is a reason they not on back order. Crappy ergonomics, jaw weld with a scope unless you get a different stock and triggers that can't compare to a nice AR trigger. While I like my SAR8 (HK91/PTR91 and all other clones) is is not as user friendly as the AR series.

I would buy model 1 way before I bought a blackthorn kit.

This can be solved with a cheek pad or the $45 cheek piece RTG Parts sells.

The trigger part can't be argued with...a good AR trigger is about as good as a rifle trigger gets.

I can assure you, however, that they're still in high demand. It might not have worked for you, but demand is still high enough that they sell for more than new in the classifieds.

Anything black and semi auto is in demand.
Cheek pad only helps the height for a scope. Still doesn't solve the goofy position of the controls. How about the other things I mentioned? Nope, still not in the same league as an AR10.
They are an interesting battle style rifles and everyone should have one but are not close to a AR10 if accuracy and ease of use goes.

I was merely disputing your idea that the qualms you had with it were actually preventing it from selling. In reality, they're harder to get a hold of than an AR.

In the end, however, you're absolutely right. The comparison between an AR10 and a PTR91 isn't really a valid one. The AR10 is a precision rifle and probably your best bet when it comes to an accurate .308. The PTR91 is a clone of a battle rifle, and it will never be the best choice for a bench-rest gun.

Just fyi, the AR-10 stuff Model 1 carries is ALL armalite parts and Krieger is one of the TOP names in barrels. M1S just does the assembly. They probably even buy the completed AR-10 barrels Krieger makes and simply do a headspace check after assembly.

lol. Good to back you up then :P

The M1S is a good deal on an upper built of reputable parts--as long as you are going for an accurate factory upper. I was going to take this route but then I decided to place an order with GA precision.........Just need to wait for the AR-10 receivers to build it though. lol.
