Curious. Are you using a retaining pin on the buffer?

that looks like crap! even my junk upper from china fits better than that
"It is currently CA legal to modify a double-action revolver into a single-action revolver and modify a single-action revolver into a double-action revolver.

CA DOJ BOF stance on modifying handguns only applies to dimensionally compliant bolt-action single-shot pistols and dimensionally compliant break-open single-shot pistols.
^It does not apply to revolvers, manually operated repeating pistols, and semi-auto pistols." ~~ Quiet

Your Upper has the Splintered “A” forge mark, which is Anchor-Harvey Aluminum forge. They are considered to be among the best Uppers. Could have simply been a batch not made to normal quality specs. I’ve never had a problem with one of the Anchor Uppers, but typically go with Brass/Aluminum Forging Enterprises, with the Square forge mark. (If you are not familiar, I recommend researching forge marks..good info to know!)

In the end, performance has the final say! IMHO. I’ll have to agree that $121 is WAY above what I would spend on a stripped upper! But then, so is $70! The two aforementioned forges I get my Uppers from, I get for under $50 per upper! These are m4 flat top.

I'd return. Prob a poorly machined batch. I got a slick side from them and it fits better than a NOS Colt.

I bought one recently and put together last week. Mine mates up perfectly. Maybe yours is a fluke. Return it to Brownells and have them replace it. Their return policy is great

OP, return the part. Not worth messing with to make it better.

mine went together smoothly and fit nicely on my aero and bcm lowers. that’s a bummer.

afaik, anchor harvey is who everyone is getting the new c7 uppers from.

fixed it for you. you got a bad one. it happens. life goes on. call the vendor. get it sorted. plenty of others have the same receiver from brownells and have no issues.

They’ll make it right or refund. Reason they are one of the largest firearms parts/accessories company in the world.

Unfortunately this is the world of ARs we live in now. I started at the beginning of the “build phenomenon”....right after the BILLARY AWB expired in ‘04. There were only a handful of parts suppliers then. And the number of home builders was a FRACTION of what it is today! Not to mention, CHINA wasn’t in the game at the time! The sheer number of manufacturers, suppliers & buyers now, means an increase in parts out of spec.

Just need to diligent in what & where we choose to acquire parts. You did good by “taking a chance” through Brownells. Only a little wasted time in the end. But NEVER do this through a company you are not very familiar with! It’s down rite scary how many AR “parts supplier” companies are being run out of the basement of some dude’s PARENT’S BASEMENT!!
