Shooting an AK, or any gun for that matter, is only fun if you hit your targets. And to hit intended targets, one must know how to properly sight in the AK.

I zero @100yds after I check mechanical zero. After it's sighted you may discover your mechanical zero looks wonky. Zero is zero regardless.

Remember "FORS" when moving the sights. Front Opposite Rear Same = direction to move the sight.

        Here's a "how to" pdf file... https://www.theakforum.net/files/ZERO-AK47.pdf

Also to clarify, the FORS formula (forward-opposite/rear-same) applies to the Point-of-Impact (POI = where the bullet hits).

To move the POI to the RIGHT:
          Move front sight left
          or
          Move rear sight right

To move the POI to the LEFT:
          Move front sight right
          Or
          Move rear sight left

          To move the POI UP:
          Move front sight down
          Or
          Move rear sight up

          To move the POI DOWN

Also on my AK, at 100 yards I sighted it in with the rear sight at ‘100’ and using a six-o-clock hold (aiming 3-4” below bullseye). At 50 yards though with this same setting it’ll shoot POA=POI (so I aim directly at the bullseye at that distance).

My AK shoots 4” groups at 100 yards on average using cheap steep case stuff. 3” groups on a great day, and 5” groups on a sloppy day.

Thank you, everyone! A total noob's question, I guess... Is it possible to sight irons in such a way that POA=POI (or very, very close) at every slider's position (so, the shooter would just adjust the rear slider to the distance a target is at and have POA=POI)?

              Thank you!

Put the rear sight elevator on the 100m setting and zero the front sight at 100yds.
It will work fine, especially considering you only have 50 and 100yds that you can shoot at.

I just got my AK out of "jail" and this is the perfect thread for me. Thanks for asking your question!
