I think mine was earlier than that, pretty much when the Crime Bill ban started. I bought a giant screwdriver and it came out with no swear words.

No need to remove/replace your buffer/tube and spring unless you want a carbine length stock.

Ugh, just realized Randall explained it perfectly.
      Yup, boom:

Don't have to mess with the buffer tube/extension, don't have to pin anything, easy peasy.

Yeah I twisted one driver steel out of the handle and then just used a BIC Lighter and it was smooth turning. No big deal. I probably did swear though.

If you've decided on Carbine, you can look into the Magpul UBR to avoid needing a castle nut and end plate as it comes with it's own mounting system. Otherwise, easiest would be the PWS self-ratcheting system, so you don't have to worry about staking and all that jazz. I personally like the B5 Bravo carbine stock with the Magpul SL in second place. The CTR is also a good option and there are plenty out there on the used market.

Note that the VLTOR stock or any others with cutouts tend to pull out your facial hair when coming off of your cheek weld. It's "no love" November and I've already lost a few hairs. LOL

If you're sticking to rifle, the Magpul fixed rifle stock is simple and cost effective. They have the PRS stock, but that's a little too much for your 16" barrel and I feel that it would cause your rifle to be unbalanced.

Latest stock I’ve bought is kinda old the ace skeleton stock. I used to see these on jp rifles so it’s kind of a competition stock. I like it. I read if you swing it like a bat and hit something it will probably bend or break.

They might have a kit where you can use the existing buffer tube and buy everything else.

I really like the ACE stock on my competition rifles as well.

You can cut a notch into the buffer tube and then set it back a bit. I set mine back 1 1/2" and added the extra thick butt pad. Now it's full length.

I started using the Ergo F93 Pro stock on all my builds a number of years ago. It’s the predecessor to Magpul’s UBR. The F93 does not use a separate buffer tube, instead has its own integral design.

It’s tough, doesn’t rattle a tic and could inflict some serious damage, used as a striking weapon. But I do believe it's a LOVE IT or HATE IT design.

They make them in A2 length also. I have one on my latest rifle, and it really is pretty awesome.

Depends. If you're getting the vltor rifle stock that is compatible with A2 receiver extension then all you have to do is swap stocks.

Cool. I didn't see that option when I bought one. I really like it anyway.

But now I read the OP is looking for battery storage. So this one is out.
