    WASR 10 Under Folder

Does anyone have one of the newer WASR 10, specifically the under folder model? How's the quality? Canted sights? I know they've improved greatly over the years. I'm wanting to pick one up from Atlantic Firearms, but wanted to get some feedback first if possible. Thanks.

Picked one up via Atlantic a few months ago. Sights are straight, typical crappy quality wood HG that comes with any WASR. Finish is a rough park. IIRC, came with a Tapco trigger.

But it shoots fine, eats anything I feed it. Takes all mags, from combloc steel, bulgy waffles, bakes, Polish/Bulgy commercial poly. All have a little wobble, nothing serious. Shipped with a riveted Pmag from Atlantic.

The wood hand guard is the first thing I'd change too.

But I'm glad to hear about it shooting and feeding everything.

Shoots as expected, 3-4 MOA with most ammo. Mine likes GT for some reason, groups are closer to 2-3 MOA (irons, benched, resting on bags).

It’d be cool to throw a Romy dong up front to replace the cheap wood that’s on it, but we all know those are extra killy and evil in the PRK. So I put a Polish laminate set with a palm-swell on it instead.

Where did you buy the hand guard from? I haven't found any good sites that have them in stock.

They’re good to go. Get it, change out the balsa handguards for some Romanian surplus handguards and shoot the **** out of it.

Atlantic has a way to lock the stock and they are ok. Ive had a few come thru. The wood is US made wood now. Im thinking about getting one myself.

What do you mean “they have improved over the years”? Far as I’m aware, AK’s have always been AK’s. My first experience building firearms was with Romanian AK kits, way back right after the Clinton AWB expired in ‘04. And I cam across quite a few WASR10’s, as far as many others. They all seemed to do exactly what they should. So what’s there to improve? I know cost certainly hasn’t!

Quality control with wasrs was lacking a while back, with canted sights, razor sharp and crooked mag Wells, uneven and unflush rivets, just to name a few of the issues. But these are virtually non-existent problems nowadays for wasrs

I had one issue with my 2018 production WASR and it was a pain in the ***. The mag catch was filed down way too far, causing some pretty bad front to back mag wobble. This led to many failures to feed out of the box. I could’ve sent it back but it seemed like it would be a pain in the *** and I didn’t want to wait.

I ordered a new mag catch assembly and assembled it myself, which was also a major pain in the ***. But I learned how to do it and it only cost me about $10 so I wasn’t too upset. Make sure that if you do purchase one, bring a few magazines to the gun shop when you go to fill out your paperwork. Check for front to back wobble and side to side.

Other than that, the magwell was good, the sites were straight, and the rivets were done well.

You could buy a kit from Arms of America and build your own Romanian underfolder.

Is that dong backwards? Also isn't building an AK a bit more complicated than an AR, and isn't it something not everyone can do?

Dongs face backwards on underfolders to clear the stock when folding.
