    Painting a Muzzle Device

Hello peeps. I have a muzzle brake that's pinned to a 14.5" barrel. I would like to paint it a certain color. What kind of paint would you suggest, where to buy it and any other suggestions to deal with this matter. Your advise is most appreciated.

I once painted one with brake caliper paint, on the assumption that it would hold up against cleaning solvents.

It really didn't hold up too well overall, but reasonably well for my purpose (to hide some wrench marks on the flats).

And I did degrease and leave it to dry and baked it for awhile and all that good stuff FYI.

If you do try something, and need to heat it, since yours is pinned you can probably get away with a heat gun strategically aimed at the muzzle device.

Depends on whether you want the color to last or not. If you want it to last, cerakote. If not, I like to use brownells alumahyde.

They even have "Blaze orange" if you want to get into trouble.

My shooting buddies in NV use VHT to paint their NFA papered F1 silencers, and they swear by it.

Don't know what OP's color prefs are, but here's linkage https://www.vhtpaint.com/high-heat/v...eproof-coating

I painted a muzzle device OD green with alumahyde about 2 years ago and it's still holding up great.

I've used bbq paint. Paint the device and then put it in the oven on the low setting for a couple of hours then allow to cool. Repaint as needed. I painted a Mini 14 stainless this way and it has been pretty durable but be sparing of cleaning solvent, it will soften the paint.

There are no Federal or CA laws that prohibits a firearm from having a "blaze orange" colored muzzle device or barrel coloration for personal use.

Some research and preparation will go a long way. You'll get the best results if you follow the proper prep and suggest drying procedure of the media you eventually use.
