    Magpul ctr ?

What's the difference between a commercial and a mil spec stock? Extension diameter? Why does it matter?

    Thanks, Karl

Yes, extension diameter. Yes, it matters. Mil-spec is the smaller of the two. Very small difference, but enough to matter. Get mil-spec, it's more common. Make sure the extension (buffer tube) & stock are both one or both the other. It doesn't matter for anything beyond that.

      Thanks,

I noticed RRA has the complete commercial kit in stock
($170) and the mil spec kits seem to be impoosible to find.

There's a reason for that. People are buying up the MILSPEC ones because those are the ones to get. Be patient and get a MILSPEC one too--you'll be glad you did.

The only reason to get the milspec one is if you're going to change your stock to something else later. The mil-spec size tube is more prevalent with the higher end aftermarket stocks. That said... the CTR is a pretty nice stock, I couldn't see upgrading from there to anything other than a SOPMOD. In which case, just get a SOPMOD now... otherwise, get either CTR and forget it.

The mil-spec extension is machined from a forging. The commercial extension is machined/welded from an extrusion.

The forging is the right way to go and is stronger. The commercial is the cheap way to go.

What is the deal on SOPMODS, why are they so good, just curious ?

Not all commercial tubes have that 5deg. slant on the back, so be careful

Just go Milspec in the future if you want to switch stocks you can easily get one in milspec as there are many rifle owners that use it. As for the Magpul CTR Stock I tried my friend and just the quality is outstanding. The stock is very solid and barely has a wobble. You will be happy with this stock.
