    80% Lower Buildapalooza?

I'm considering organizing a (small) group buy on 80% lowers, a lower jig, and anodizing equipment/materials. The process would be:

    1. Get 5 - 10 people involved
    2. Find a supplier of 80% lowers as well as lower jigs
    3. Order however many lowers per person as each person wants
    4. Order 1 jig for every 5 people involved
    5. Get all the stuff needed to basic anodizing (I can get the acid...my buddy is a plumber)
    6. Organize a one-day event at my house where each person involved can drill their lower and anodize it; I have one drill press so if it is a large group a second press would be needed.

    Questions:

    1. Who would be interested in this?
    2. Where's the best place to get the lowers and the jigs?

It takes a LOT of time to do an ar15 80% build, if you only have one jig and two presses, you will not be able to do it on that scale.

One drill press per person and maybe you could do it. Otherwise you have a lot of people standing around watching someone dull drill bits. Also many of the 80% lowers these days are coming with un-milled fire control pockets, that requires CNC's jigs milling adaptor and time, time and more time.

YellowLogics lower from the first batch, second batch is now done Blaine is a great guy to deal with. Look you get a single shot sled with your paperweight!

Using CNCs jig and milling adaptor produces this in only 10 minutes ( just kidding!!!)

0% forgings run about $20 but you must do all the work
80% billets run about $225 and the most work you need do to is open the fire control group pocket
80% forging run about $136 and basically have cut open the magwell, fire control group pocket, mag catch and bolt catch.

CNC Guns has a real nice jig. For extra money they will throw in a fire control group pocket milling adaptor for use with a drill press.

Baxter makes in nice jig. They offer some sort of a buffer tube opening and threading tool.

Inland Empire is pretty far, but I would possibly be in. If someone had a mill that would make things a lot easier.

Making your own lower does not require dros does it?

great plan & i hope you go for it BUT:
OP, i think you're awful ambitious thinking that 5-10 people can drill/machine their lowers AND ano them in the course of a single-day event. as AJAX22 pointed out, just the drilling/milling is at least a couple hours per lower, tying up a DP the whole time. even if you have two DPs, finishing 5, let alone 10, is going to take most of the day.
ano takes at least a few hours per batch to do it right. now even assuming you were set up to do a few lowers a time (big bath for each of ano, dyeing, and sealing), by the time you have a few to do and start them, its going to be afternoon probably. its going to go late into the night to get them all done. not that it isn't possible, i'm just trying to alert you to the logistics you may not have thought through. a multi-day party might be called for (consecutive or otherwise)
                            and
Seesm, i'm in Central/NorCal and may be able to help w/ a regional 80% AR build party in our neck of the woods. not sure about hosting one myself, but i could potentially bring tooling and expertise to someone else's event. i've done a lot of these and have pretty much everything one needs to finish and anodize an AR non-gun into a nice lower. not that i'd be able to bring everything, but i could potentially fill in the needed bits.
