    Grendel Project

I just took the plunge to start a 6.5 grendel build. I had been trying to decide between the 6.5 and the .308 for the last couple of months. Well last night I learned that Forrester is now shipping dies and Redding will be soon. The brass is due in at Graf & Sons and Midway any time now according to Lapua. With all this comeing together I figured that the AR reciever options gave the nod to a Gendel build. CSS has barrel kits in stock so I ordered one today. 22in Lothar Walther barrel, bolt & gas block. I will be putting this together on my Mega lower reciever and upper. Ordered another JP 2nd generation FF tube, so all I need now will be a bolt carrier to finish the upper. Don't know whether it will be a Young NM or a LMT M16 carrier.

The lower will be getting a White Oak lower parts kit minus the trigger. The trigger will be a JP single stage or a Guissele trigger. Butt stock will probably be a Magpul PRS. Any one used both triggers and have a preferance?

This rifle will be used for 600yd + targets, a little ground squirell shooting and maybe a deer or antelope.

    Awesome project, I am jealous.

I have a two stage CMC in mine (and I think you should consider a two stage trigger for long range) and have no experience with with either triggers you are considering, but Technical Ted got a Guiselle trigger a while back and he thought it was well worth the money. When Technical Ted talks, I listen.

I've done a lot of reading on the Guissele trigger and am leaning strongly in that direction. I have a lot of experience with 2 stage triggers and like them. So many good reveiws on the Guissele with no bad ones that I have come across. Just curious about the JP.

CSS just e-mailed me and told me that the bolt is on back order. The manufacture is behind in production. So my project will take a little longer.

The only negative on the Guiselle that I can see is the price, that is why I don't have one yet.

AA seems to have a problem with having enough bolts in stock. Same thing happened with my 24" Overwatch and my Beowulf. Had to wait 4 months for my Grendel and 3 months for my Beowulf due to bolts. It was worth the wait, though!

          Sounds like a good project.

One note, AA opens up the ejection port a bit to allow for the larger Grendel brass. You might run into a problem if you use the "stock" Mega upper. You might want to look into that before barreling.

True, but originally AA ran with stock uppers and only opened up the port when they went into production "just to make sure."

Sounds like a great project! I've been considering going the Grendel route myself.

Make sure and keep us posted on your progress.

I went over board this weekend and ordered the lower parts kit and the Guissele trigger also. I figure it will be a few weeks before they recieve the bolts and bill me, if not I will have a big CC bill.
