          No there are not.

          There is Maraviov in Woodland.

There's a gunsmithing school at Lassen college in Susanville.

Most gunsmiths these days are glorified armorers with delusions of grandeur.

J&G is a joke. Anything other than a Fudd gun they want nothing to do with.

Thsre are a few rare places that do the kind of work you mention. It takes a lot of trai ing and experience to master, serves a limited clientelle, and is time-consuming on a per-piece basis and is less lucrative every year. Not a lot of folka want to sign up for that.

What really changed the game was when modern manufacturing and materials made it cheaper in most cases to buy a new gun than to fix the old. Human skillsd labor is expensive and that's mostly what gunsmithing is.

J&G are a bit fuddy...old men who give windows pennys on the dollar for estate sale guns. Dont blame them but is a bit sad. But you can find some good deals on c&rs once in awhile. I dont mind them have been going there for well over a decade, probably 2 now. I have had gunsmith work done there but just on a 10/22 and a 1911. Was a bit disappointing in the 1911 dove tail cut a wrecking the bluing.

There was a guy who actually was doing ak builds who lives in Loomis area. Cant remember his name. He may be able to help you. I bought a Romanian sks year ago from him. good guy/ Ill see if I can find his name in my PMs from years ago

Sadly, and I didn't think of it like that before, but that seems true... Gunsmithing these days seems to mean pushing sights onto pistols.

What's the father/son home-based smith in Citrus Heights? They've been recommended to me a few times.

                Sleepy's or something like that.

Have you tried The Gun Range. I heard they have a gunsmith (call first).

So many old timers out there that actually feel that ARs, AKs, HKs etc. should not be owned by the general public... Gunsmiths, decades long hunters, lifetime NRA members. It started in the 80s when these rifles that were never previously available started flooding the market for the first time..
