    Broken shell extractor

Just wondering if anyone ever had a "broken shell" and needed the extractor? Never seen it nor has it ever happened to me. Is it more likely to happen with Mil. surplus ammo than commerical?

It can happen to reloaded ammo if you are not carefull. The more times you reload it, it will get weaker and can seperate and if you get a round in the chamber with a broken shell it can cause all kinds of problems.

I've only had case-head seperation when using factory ammo. Once with Elley Brown Box left over from the '84 US Olyimpic Shooting Team. So, it can happen with high quality ammo too. The only time I've needed an extractor was last weekend when a case seperated in a power actuated hammer. I do have a few different calibers of extractor tools, just in case.

I have one and used it, of course I have a cetme, it only likes military cases, it rips commercial brass in half rapidly if the fluted chamber is dirty, I reload also even though I use lake city military brass it is possible an errant load could cause case head seperation, they are handy, and easy to use, and cheap, and you can keep on shooting after you use it.
