What's the required oal? Can they be folded? I saw some discussion months ago that some rifles could be folded depending on their barrel lengths, have no clue where that thread is now.

What changes can I make to my assault weapon after I register it?RAWs 26" Over All Length
The minimum length for a rifle that is a RAW are:
1. Barrel length = 16"
2. Overall length = 26".
This is so that the RAW does not run afoul CA SBR laws.
Per CA SBR case laws... [People v Rooney, People v Stinson]
Overall length of the rifle is measured with the firearm in the shortest possible firing configuration (stock folded/collapsed) and from the tip of the muzzle to the back of the stock or receiver.
In both CA SBR cases, non-permanetly attached muzzle devices were left on when they measured the rifle's overall length.Last edited by Quiet; 04-17-2019, 11:58 PM.sigpic

When the most recent registry was opened the rifle had to be a minimum of 30" overall and barrel had to be minimum of 16". Once you did the online application following all requirements through CFARS with all the headache that went with it, you would receive a RAW letter from CADOJ verifying your rifle is now in CA Assault Weapon Registry. Once your rifle was a RAW you could shorten overall length to 26" but barrell remains no less than 16" to avoid getting into SBR territory, a place you don't want to go...
