Hera forward grip CA version for featureless ok?

Just wondering if the CA version with the closed thumb hole is acceptable for a featureless AR?

I would say that is not a vertical forward grip as it must be grasped as a traditional forend.

CA assault weapons laws restricts a "forward pistol grip" on semi-auto centerfire rifles that do not have a fixed magazine. [PC 30515(a)(1)(F)]

It does not appear that the grip, in the pic, allows for a "pistol style grasp", so it would not meet the definition of a "forward pistol grip" and be CA legal when installed on a featureless semi-auto centerfire rifle.



Penal Code 30515
(a) Notwithstanding Section 30510, “assault weapon” also means any of the following:
(1) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that does not have a fixed magazine but has any one of the following:
(A) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon.
(B) A thumbhole stock.
(C) A folding or telescoping stock.
(D) A grenade launcher or flare launcher.
(E) A flash suppressor.
(F) A forward pistol grip.
(2) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.
(3) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has an overall length of less than 30 inches.

California Code of Regulations Title 11 Division 5 Chapter 39 Article 2 Section 5471
(t) “Forward pistol grip” means a grip that allows for a pistol style grasp forward of the trigger.

Keep in mind that the federal definition of vertical forward grip for AOW/NFA purposes on pistols is different than the California definition for California assault weapon purposes.
