Fal's generally don't like steel case ammo. I've seen a lot of failures to eject, despite opening up the gas system. I always felt is had to do with how the chambers were cut on the original military barrels. The new DSA Fals have new production barrels, so that might not be an issue any longer if you buy one of theirs.

I have a C308 that I picked up for a good deal a little while back. I know Century does not have the best reputation, but the C308 has impressed me. I have had no issues with it and seems to shoot steel cased ammo just fine.

I own a PTR and an FAL. I use cheap steel case ammo in PTR, any parts breakage is a cheap easy repair. Save the brass ammo for the FAL.

I have a British L1A1, an Aussie SLR and a HK91 and have shot steel case in all of them with no issues. I used to have a PTR 91 and also shot steel case through that with no problems. Mostly I use brass cased ammo though since I reload and only shoot brass cased ammo through my M1A, it is easier for me to have a single type of ammo for all my .308 rifles.

          Rhetorical question:

Why is it when someone posts that they are looking to buy gun X or Y, it seems that some knucklehead or the other ALWAYS has to post their personal preference for gun Z?

Do they not realize that the OP just might have considered all the options and are only interested in the actual guns they inquired about? Or are they so anxious to increase their post count that they just have to say something/anything even it it isn't really relevant to the discussion.

ha ha ha about the rhetorical question. What's even more pointless is that when they put up their preference for gun z, they just type "gun z". They don't bother explaining why, what makes it a better alternative than x or y, or anything. It's like they were being charged by the letter or something.

I have the PTR 91 GI, and a DSA SA 58 Voyager (The cast receiver, not forged).

I have shot steel case in both guns. The PTR has chewed it up. No issues. Recoil is aggressive as ****.

The SA 58 on the other hand had a "kaboom" with tulammo. It blew the magazine floor plate off, jammed the bolt hard to the rear, and ripped the back of the casing off and left the rest of the casing stuck to the wall of the chamber. I had to take it to a local gun smith to get it out. He inspected the rifle and said it looked fine but he would not advise shooting steel case in it again. Brass case ammo runs fine. But the gun is still has malfunctions here and there.

The PTR has never jammed once.

That all said I enjoy shooting the FAL more than the PTR, and the FAL finds itself in my rifle bags more than the PTR.

If your just going to shoot steel case exclusively, get the PTR
