    Stipple grip wrap on featureless?

Anyone stipple a kydex grip wrap on a featureless build? The kydex is kinda slick and was thinking of doing this? Anyone know if kydex can be stippled like say a glock frame?

yes- plastic melts and can be stippled
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

It should work because it is plastic. BUT... Kydex is mainly PVC, so the smoke and fumes will end up corroding the metal on your soldering iron. The corrosion may not happen right away, but will probably get worse over time. Don't have any gun parts near the smoke or they will get corroded too. Definitely do NOT breathe it, fumes are dangerous. When forming Kydex for holsters, it just gets warm enough to form, but when PVC burns or melts, it is another story.

It's not difficult at all but does take a few minutes of practice. I make my AK/AR grip wraps in my oven in house with no problems. As for stippling, get yourself a wood burning kit at Walmart comes with a few different burning tips. You can get pretty creative, practice on some scraps, go slow, and don't stay in one spot too long or go too deep. If you over do it, you'll end up with a nasty hole or slick marks. Avoid warping the kydex by working in small sections at different intervals(talking about seconds at a time). Better to work with your kydex grip off of your weapon so that you can visually inspect the back side of the kydex for penetration...you don't need to penetrate all the way through. I mainly use the fine needle point attachment on my wood burner (gives me a skate board grip tape type effect if i do my part), i first stipple my border and then work my way in from there. With this fine/light of a stipple though, i do get s few little spots where it wears thin but i just hit them again taking care to manage the duration of heat and the depth of the stippling. You can then practice doing stippling/logos on handguards/buttstocks/mags etc. Hope this helps.

          Practice on an old AR.grip.

I did it.on my featureless grip. It helps. I need more practice.

But I eventually switched to the NC star grip with thumbrest. A lot better.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

Another option is to add grip tape to the kydex to increase traction. I've done this for all of my featureless grips. It holds up well and has been through several carbine courses without coming off.

            Here is what I use:

What type of gun is it going on?

Different plastic has different heat temps to acquire the same results.

I did one a few days ago, gives a much better grip after stippling. This is a quickie home made wrap over a MOE grip until I figure out what I want to run long term. I only stippled the front strap and about half way around each side, but I can continue it all the way back if I need to.

Anyhow, after trying it and feeling the results, I’d never not stipple one now.

Another temporary (or permanent) solution is grip wrap. I bought a couple sheets of talon rubber grips and put them on my Kydex grip wrap and also on my thordsen hammerhead.

I’d grip tape it personally. Great grip and not as ugly. No toxic fumes either.
