KNS Precision, Inc. Bolt Catch Retaining Pin - Opinions?

I was in a LGS last night and there was a discussion regarding how to build a "legal" AR-15. I interjected the DFM magazines into the conversation and another person said they wouldn't use them without this...

KNS Precision, Inc. Bolt Catch Retaining Pin

I guess the objection was to knocking the roll pin in/out or the lack of convenience in doing so or something.

I know there are some here and on AR15.com which throw the KNS part out there; but, I was wondering what the opinions are regarding how useful they are, their longevity, how easy it is to remove/replace, etc. I don't have a dog in the hunt, but I am curious.

I don't know that I'd use the word 'necessary' either. I was just curious.

I like this. Will be good for when I destroy the hole more than it already is on my Spike's BB RAW

Also, I have recently been using aero m4e1 lowers, and they have a threaded pin
"It is currently CA legal to modify a double-action revolver into a single-action revolver and modify a single-action revolver into a double-action revolver.

CA DOJ BOF stance on modifying handguns only applies to dimensionally compliant bolt-action single-shot pistols and dimensionally compliant break-open single-shot pistols.
^It does not apply to revolvers, manually operated repeating pistols, and semi-auto pistols." ~~ Quiet

Although it has not happened to mine yet, Broken Bolt Catches seems to be a thing with 9mm AR's...so I can see a place for it. What I'm wondering is how hard it is to install that small of a retaining clip, without loosing it and or scratching the receiver. I'm sure you could source replacements locally,(Lowe's/HD) but I think a Circlip (the kind with the 2 little holes) might have been a better choice for R&R. A cheap pair if Snap Ring Pliers might have to be purchased, but much better control for instillation. As always just my .02.

I wondered about the installation as well. Then I saw this...

But, as you suggest, that was part of my concern regarding longevity; i.e., as a quasi-permanent 'solution.'

That was the way I learned to do it.

I take issue with the little clippy things. I believe my cmc trigger came with that style pin and the little buggers would fall off.

Thanks for the Video. I don't think the clips would just fall off....as pointed out in the Video...But I can see them learning to fly pretty easy on the install. Using a Plastic Bag to put the Detent's and Spring in the lowers could also be used to install the little clips. Its not that expensive an experiment, so I will look into it. I already have the Flat Sided Punch from Brownells, so its not really a problem to R&R the regular roll pin.

I have one of these on one of my rifles. It is trivial to install. It hasn't fallen off yet but I haven't been throwing my rifle on the carpet either. I like it more than pounding the roll pin in and out.

I bought them to make it easy to remove and install the DFM mag. I also ground off the little nub on another bolt catch to make it easy to take the DFM in and out. I do not like that option, because the bolt sometimes catches on the mag follower and sometimes doesn't, which is really a problem.

I like it. If you can install/remove the ejection port cover then there will be no problem with it.
