    Which stripped upper?

Just picked up a spikes lower and plan on doing an M4 build. I am deciding on either a blem Aero or a blem BCM for the upper? Both are almost the same price and I plan on getting it cerakoted anyway.

Which upper would you guys get?

If you are going for lowest blemish price either of the two would work just fine. If you have a Spikes lower why not call them and see if they have blemish uppers, they just might. I would buy Spikes regardless that way its a matching Spikes complete AR receiver set.

I like Aero enhanced uppers because it eliminates having to time the barrel nut, but it can be slightly more expensive and limits you to Aero and a select few other compatible handguards.

Otherwise, I would just get the cheapest. Never understood the point of paying extra for a brand name with AR-15 uppers and lowers. They're basically all the same. Spend that money on the barrel, trigger, or even muzzle brake--those affect how you shoot. Having a spike's logo instead of an anderson pony does not.
In case it wasn't obvious, nothing I write here should be interpreted as legal advice.

Joe Bob is great. As solid as they get.

Joe bob is good to go. Honestly, you would never be able to tell between spikes or any other brand. Just get what’s cheapest. Spikes outsources much of their product line. Only thing spikes on the upper probably the packaging.

That’s true, I understand a lot of the lowers and uppers come from the same 3-4 manufacturers. It’s more of a personal preference to get an upper from a well known brand.

I have a budget PSA and Anderson 18” build that works great, nothing against those companies.

Yeah, the prices are almost identical was curious if anyone here had a preference on a brand to sway me one way

BCM does an undersized bore for the barrel to slip into. Requires heating the receiver. The added benefit is increase potential accuracy as the upper to barrel fit goes from slip fit to interference fit.

Joe Bob is good to go. I run all JD lowers and have mostly aero uppers. Never had a problem. Can't speak on other but that's my experience

The only thing I've noticed when building mixmaster rifles is the finish can be different between brands. Some more flat some more shiny. If you're cerakoteing anyway it won't matter. Many uppers are not marked with a brand only with a mark by the company that actually forged it. I.e. Keyhole, square, etc.
Saying that I'd be the one to pay the five bucks and get the "matching" Spikes just because.

Just remembered, I have a blem spikes and there are casting marks on the outside of the receiver it works just fine but if you are putting effort into painting the upper, not all blems are the same. My friend on the other hand bought one and I couldn’t find anything wrong with it.

I read that BCM dry-lubes their uppers per mil spec. All else being equal, I would choose that.

OTOH the spike's will have the dueling dicks on it.

i've only purchased completed uppers (seem to be more cost effective) but have been very happy with my aero uppers w/ enhanced guard. EXTREMELY easy to remove and replace your handguard.
