    Franklin Armory Providence

Cool idea. No idea if this will be CA legal.

    Firearm Blog Article
It was just about this time last year when us ‘new media’ types were getting geared up for SHOT, when Franklin Armory decides to roll a grenade onto the dance floor in the form of the Reformation, a short barreled non– SBR.Well, in what everyone should have seen coming, the mad scientists at Franklin have just announced the Providence, a non-semiautomatic rifle that fires one round with every pull of the trigger.Let’s take a look at their latest YouTube video:

Are those Glock mags? Is it my eyes, or do those mags look less canted than usual?

This is a G17 with the extended mag:

Definitely a Glock mag, but that is a weird feeding angle. Third time watching the video and I just now noticed there is no brass ejecting from the gun. I am curious how this is going to work out.

Cool stuff, probably won't help us in California on first glance. Semiautomatic is defined by California law as "functionally able to fire a single cartridge, eject the empty case, and reload the chamber each time the trigger is pulled and released."
In case it wasn't obvious, nothing I write here should be interpreted as legal advice.

The gun is not actually shooting, it's just cycling through with no ammunition....magic

That's what came to my mind as well. But still cool!

Except I'm an idiot. As fourxfour points out, it's not ejecting the empty cases. So it doesn't meet the California semi-auto definition. And while I'm not an expert on the roster provisions of the unsafe handgun law, it looks like that means it can be readily added to the roster. Which is cool as hell, because a braced AR9 pistol with drop free Glock mags would sell like hotcakes.

                In for one.

Um, if its not ejecting the cases, where will they go? I think that video is just a dry-fire, didn't see any muzzle blast (what blackberg said)

Lol FA got butthurt over the questions inrangeTV asked last year so Franklin Armory blacklisted them this year. Guess they are not confident that their product will stand up to real reporting.

I like it in semi but not touching that with a ten foot pole in non semi. But I still love Franklin pushing the limits.

Clever clever. Quite brilliant if you ask me. It is a pump action and your trigger finger is the pump. The trigger works like a striker fire pistol.

I won't get excited unless it shoots finned ammo.
