.22LR Conversion kit question

Hello All,

I just ordered spikes .22LR conversion kit for my 5.56/.223 AR-15 rifle. I have been doing some research on this and cannot seem to find an answer to my question. My question is will the .22LR damage my 1/7 twist barrel since the .22LR does not match the barrel size? I know that buying a dedicated .22LR upper will give me peace of mind but if I don't have to drop $550 dollars compared to $200 i'd rather go with the conversion kit. Does anyone here have a .22LR conversion kit on their AR-15 5.56/.223 rifle that can help answer my question?

as long as you clean your barrell after every shooting outing you should be fine.

What barrel twist rate do you guys have? Also how is your accuracy with it?

I have the Ciener 22LR conversion, the bolt and mag. I have a 1/7 twist barrel, and its just as accurate as if i was shooting .223 at 50yards. The money you will save using .22Lr vs. .223 is a no brainer. It will pay for itself in a few trips to the range, oh and its fun as hell! $18 for 500rds to shoot all day is nice.

I just tried mine today got mine from spike. It took a bit over a month for them to send it to me. My stag 4H shot it alright, it keep a good group at 50 yards but would stove pipe or wouldn't reset the trigger a couple times. I'm hoping its just the ammo, it was the brick Winchester from walmart. I need to find more .22lr ammo now.

Try the Federal Brand if you're having stovepipes. I've read that the Winchesters are under-powered.

Also, it's fine to shoot .22LR in .223/5.56. Remember the bullet is lead and the barrel is steel, erosion is from heat and pressure, not lead to steel contact. This is why most .22LR guns last forever.

So all you need for the conversion is the upper minus the barrel, or do you need the complete upper? (I know the mags are different too)

Just the kit. Most kit comes with one magazine. Swap out your 223 BCG, and you are good to go.

one guy i met at the range said he had to replace a spring on the trigger, and it was smooth all the way after that. anyone else do this?

Mine came with n extra 9" spring, 1.5" rod, and a .25" pin. I have no idea whats it for, it didn't come with any instructions and they haven't responded to my email. It looks like an extra spring for the bolt but its a different color, might be another tension.
