This thread seems to be pretty civil.
We are talking about guns on a gun forum, or so I thought.

At that time, I posted to either stake the castle nut in place, or if you choose, you could Mickey-Mouse-half-assss it with Loctite.
Locktite is the way to go. No need to permanently deform metal, replace parts, or buy any tools. Locktite is very easy to undo, not permanent, and can be cleaned off completely if so desired. Why would I want to keep dinging up my castle nut and end plate if I don't need to?

Please refer to the video on this page
Every time that I ding a rifle for not having the endplate properly staked, I expect no less than 6 neckbeards in the comments screaming about how it is 2017 and thread locking compounds have come so far.I am never disappointed and I fully expect the comments on this post to be no different.Sons Of Liberty Gun Works took the time to put together a video addressing some of the bad advice that plagues the internet. What are some of the utterly ridiculous reasons I have heard for NOT staking an end plate?

Yup, and I don't mind regurgitated old threads. New ideas are out there for a lot of questions that reoccur.

Ratcheting end plate options might not be better than staking but that's a new thing to try and new info to share and put to the test.

10oz Dead Blow Hammer (doesn't bounce on hard punch)

A couple of moderate taps to get the stake started then 2 or 3 good whacks and I am done.

I think the BCM barrel nut tool for the KMR/MCMR is on of the best tools available for the castle nut.

I would imagine the hammer and punch would be better. I admit the spring loaded punch slipped on me a couple times.
