    .17hmr or .17wsm upper

I have a AR lower I want to make into a rimfire rifle. I like the accuracy and velocity of the .17 round. Any experience with either the .17hmr or .17wsm with a AR lower as to what needed to be converted other than the upper which will be a blowback bolt?

I had both calibers in Ruger bolt actions to shoot ground squirrels, The HMR proved much more accurate and consistent but sometimes the squirrels would be able to drag themselves back to their holes after a good hit on hmr. I ended up selling the 17wsm and bought the .17 hornet centerfire so I could hand load. the hmr is still more accurate but I love the hornet as it can reach out approaching 300yds.

Oh and hand loading the hornet with 6grain of powder is fun and challenging at the same time.

The HMR is perhaps my favorite to shoot, fun, quiet and the rounds are just so cute!

Can't go wrong with either. Hmr will be cheaper both for the upper and the ammo. Wsm if you're looking for more velocity.

IIRC, a lower needs nothing special done to it to shoot either caliber.

But, I only know of one company that makes a WSM upper and that's Franklin Armory.

I think there's only 2 companies that make HMR uppers. One is Alexander Arms. I can't remember the 2nd company.

The Garrow Firearms looks pretty slick. Much cheaper than Franklin too.

Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

I have a Garrow .17 hmr upper on an Aero Precision lower, Geissele SSA 2 stage trigger, etc.

And as much as I hate to say it, my heavy barrel (thumb hole stock) Savage A 17 is a little nicer shooter, and fuzz more accurate, ....once you get past the trigger and funky magazine.

The Garrrow upper was $650. and the A 17 was a couple hundred cheaper.

If I was to do it all over....CZ 455

                Just saying.
