Need Gunsmith- N. Bay Area for WIN 94

Hey folks, wondering if you can reccomend a decent Winchester gunsmith for a tempermental Winchester 94. She's acting up in/when trying to feed the beast.............even when cracking open the lever a tad the feed gate is just a REAL Beyautch- Way more than what is/should be required.

I love the DIY route but I've not had much luck over the years with lever-actions and the "finer" adjustments to tweak these actions......

Would like too to also have the action smoothed a bit and maybe lighten the trigger. So any suggestions are welcomed if you know of one; a big +1 if ya' used them yourself.

Frank Tabor of Tabor's Shooters Supplies in San Bruno is a great smith, does a lot of work on cowboy guns. He's a SASS guy as well (handle "I M Nobody").

Of course, he recommends Marlin leverguns, not Winchesters, to newbies.

But I'm sure he can take a look at it and find out what's wrong.

Ah! Shoulda thought of him; I know he does M1A's!

Anyone know if he's picked up his pace of turn around time? NRA_HPS had a rig down there for several months IIRC. But I will certainly look into him! Thank you!!!!

Sorry to hijack the thread but does Frank work on bolt action rifles too? I have a Mauser 30.06 bolt-action that doesn't always eject properly (been this way since I inherited it from my Dad). I can shoot 'em and clean 'em but don't get involved outside of that. I'm in San Mateo so San Bruno would be prime.

For the record I also have a Marlin lever-action 30-30 (was my first and still favorite deer gun when I lived in Oklahoma)

I think most decent gunsmiths - which includes Frank - can take on bolt gun work. Give him a call!

Also, John Mathews of Almaden Gun Exchange in San Jose is a top-notch smith for a variety of gun types. He'll be doing my Ruger Super Blackhawk -> Bisley "Bishawk" conversion.

As Bill noted... "any" decent Gunsmith *should* be able to do a bolt action. The number of decent gunsmiths though dramatically Decreases with more moving parts Then you've got your specialists, either by demand or by thier own decision. Frank's a good guy but I've known for years he sometimes allows himself to "get swamped" and it takes months to get stuff out. But it has definitely been a least a year since I stepped in, I might just walk her in and see what he says.

BTW.... My First self-bought gun (aka deer rifle) was a Marlin Lever action too
